Greetings,
I am still new to EVE (10 days) but I've purchased the full version and am loving it. Is there a type of pilot that is desired by corps? I seem to be enjoying everything I have tried so far so before I get to set on a path I would like to develop a character that is needed most.
I am a strong support character, never seeking the spotlight but love to be part of a winning team. Are there careers that are avoided by most but are really needed in order to support a war machine?
Any helps greatly appreciated.

Depends what type of corp. Assuming PvP, then I suppose as long as you specialise at something then you're always welcome.
Interdictor, interceptor, carrier, dreadnought, pos manager, logistics, industry, market playing.... can you define what you want to do?

Heavy dedication on leadership skills and flying a proper gang ship (Not a gan(g)k ship, but really fitting gang mods and such on Command Ships) will ALWAYS earn you a high place in gangs; if eventually you become experienced enough to FC, even the better. ...who of course promptly went bat****, flipped out and killed some people. |

One thing you _might_ want to think about, once you pick a path - is redoing your character so he ends up with attributes that supports it. It is going to make you training noticably faster - and any training you have done already that will then be lost - can easily be overcome and regained, once you have the right attributes.
Not saying you should, but its a piece of advice at least.

Or vice versa
Really though there is room for a variety of specialists. Good CovOp/Recon pilots and especially those with firstrate probing skills are of value.
Now Logistics ships are getting a buff Logistics pilots may be more in demand.
As mentioned Command Ship pilots with all the appropriate leaderships skills, implants, Wing/Fleet command skills are very desirable.
Specialize in a variety of PvP types...tacklers, dictors, bombers (now...guess wait and see how they pan out) and just general front line stuff like a good battleship pilot or Dread/carrier pilot.
In industry, while many PvP types do have ALTs for this, the best of the best generally dedicate themselves to it. Pimped miners, haulers, researchers, refiners, builders...can be a lot.
Mostly just figure what it is you like and angle for that and try to be the best you can at it. Once there you can branch out into other avenues and become more well rounded.

I desire pilots with big juggs. [/immaturity]
Seriously though, PvPers are what really makes or breaks a corporation. I you want to be usefull, take the combat route; other peeps can do the mining and such.
BTW, this is not a stab at industrialists (AKA carebears), but I do notice that finding people willing to make money is usually easier than finding peeps to fight for that right to make money.

Edited by: Gaven Blands on 19/06/2007 20:16:50 Well, every type of pilot is welcome somewhere.
Here are some of the less popular types:- Scammers. For some reason nobody likes scammers. I think because scammers prey on stupidity, and nobody likes to feel stupid, even if they are. Thieves. For some reason nobody likes thieves. I think because their are very few ingame mechanics for dealing with thieves. Muggers. Slightly different from a "pirate". They ransom a victim and then kill him anyway and take what is left. They are very rare indeed.
But anything else you care to do, somebody somewhere will want you to do it with them, whatever it is.
EDIT: By thieves I mean corp thieves and loot thieves. Before somebody comes along and calls me a carebear whinaminer. Ore thieves can be dealt with. It's just few people do.

Pilots with high leadership skills for gang bonuses. Also people who can fit gang mods on a battlecruiser/command ship.
In 0.0, we were always wishing we had more people in dictors and people who could anchor large warp bubbles.
Capital ship pilots are always very useful, but it takes a long time to train for that.

Really? I find the opposite. Everyone and their cat wants to go pew pew and getting someone to mine for 6 hours on a regular basis is a hassle.
I also disagree that PvPers are the backbones of a corp. Industry has always been at the base of any successful military in history. Of course they need each other...no soldiers and your industry gets owned but in theory industry types can live without soliders. Soldiers cannot live without industry.
If you look at the top notch alliances one feature they have in common are excellent industrial aspects to them.

I cant believe no-one is saying capital ship pilots. Train for a battleship that is good in fleet fights, then train for that race cap ships. Gallente has good ships in basically every category, and you can easily branch out to caldari for pve.
