I know this is a really stupid question but i'm too intrigued not to ask, I see more freighters around now than shuttles so assuming it's not just to look cool what are they used for?
900k+ m3 must be pretty hard to fill even for the richest players? Or not? Do people with frieghters really have a daily use for them?

Now that rev2 is live (with freighter ganking near impossible without massive coordination and alpha power) they'll go back to being the default "lets haul expensive stuff afk" ship.

Don't forget about minerals and ships. It's quite easy to fill a freighter full of low end minerals. Also, you have to realize that the next biggest cargo hold able to travel through high sec tops out at around 30k m3. That's only a couple of battlecruisers or one BS. So, anything above that could warrant moving it in a freighter. As the above poster stated, there is also the safety factor.

Minerals, POS fuel and ores, manufactured T1 and T2 ships, reseller goods as some people deal with billions worth of goods, personal items and ships - if you own quite a lot of stuff a freighter comes in handy.

Freighters are pretty tiny actually. A corp mate can't even deliver a weeks mining yield to me in hers and she has maxed skills on it and uses a charon (the largest one).
Hauling cap building components fills it up quickly too.
900k m3 is piddles these days for the even semi-rich. The ultra rich would need fleets of freighters if they were to do their own logistics, but most just pay others to do it.

that is why you haul raw minerals you can fit a carrier worth of mins in a freighter but need 1.4 freighters to haul the componets

Why don't you find out?
I did this once, grab a Heron (or any other astrometrics frig) and chuck a cargo scanner and a sensor booster on it and go scan some freighters.
You see all sorts of interesting stuff.
Interesting way to spend a day... as a one-off anyways.

I haul ships for people as well as minerals and ores among other things.
Kinda hard to get ships to market without a freighter. ------------- "Isk is cheap. Life is cheaper. This week, they're having a sale on both." Laugh until you cry: Battle Asses

I didn't see anything in patch notes that negated freighter ganking; what changed?
