Anyone got any tips on which other OS's are good and I suppose a good question is, does EVE-ONLINE support othe OS's other than Windows ?

Peeps play EVE in Linux. I've seen screenies of it running in the Ubuntu distro mainly though.

Realistically, you've only really got 2 alternatives- Mac and Linux. If you go Linux, I can recommend Ubuntu distro, using the Wine app to run EVE and other Windows programs.
Other than those two...dunno really. Theres always BSD, but thats just Linux without any of the nice bits, for those of us who aren't in to techno babble. Solaris maybe, but it isn't anything special. Go retro and get OS/2? FreeDOS? --------

I can recommend Ubuntu... Easy installation (should be even better in next release), user-friendly, pretty good hardware compatibility (the suspend-to-RAM on my laptop actually works!) and semi-automatic updates. Try Kubuntu too (KDE desktop instead of GNOME) and see which one you like best.
I used Slackware for two years and spent most of that time maintaining software and tweaking my system... then I got sick of it and switched to Ubuntu. No regrets yet :) EVE should run under Wine, but I still boot into XP for it.

Edited by: Ryysa on 20/06/2007 06:13:06 Three to four good options these days (assuming linux)
The Aptitude systems: Ubuntu - probably the easiest distro to get into linux with. Debian - what Ubuntu is based on, might be a bit more difficult.
Emerge: Gentoo... It runs slightly faster, but you should know one or two things about Linux because you will have to mess around sometimes.
RPM... Redhat/OpenSUSE etc, I personally don't like rpm and think aptitude is the best thing since sliced bread, however your mileage may vary ;) The main problem is rpm hell.

if you want to try linux 'properly' (that is, without using one of the rickety Live CDs) but still be able to nuke it if it gets on your ****, you could do a lot worse than Wubi, a Windows Ubuntu Installer.
https://launchpad.net/wubi
this will set up linux parallel to windows, so when the PC starts you can choose which to boot into.
it worked perfectly first time for me, although i've yet to actually get eve running in it because i'm **** at linux. the good bit is that it basically takes all your existing network settings so you should be able to do stuff straight out of the box.
heartilly recommend ubuntu if you're going for linux too.

If you're really hardcore, try to get eve running on one of the original Pac-Man arcade machines! ---
