Edited by: Osiriis on 20/06/2007 05:16:24 Starts when doing a mission - you target something and the sound usually stops once the target is locked. Now the beep-beep-beep-beep just keeps going, and when u lock another target it's like on steroids. Doesn's stop when u go into a station either, only way to stop is to exit game. Sry, i see this topic is a known issue. Still - first time it's ever happened to me was today with Rev II and that's with my lame 1 year 2 month old player.

Yep, just started doing this for me today too. Hope a future patch fixes it.

I am experiencing other sound related problems such as this. Sometimes the targeting sound can be heard very faintly (like an echo or something). The above mentioned way does indeed work.

I had that too during a mission. I may have tried to target a rat that I was already in the process of targeting (was clicking quickly). Didn't go away until I relogged.
Just now, I got the sound from dragging an object from ship cargo to corp hangar in an infinite loop. Had to relog for that too. Wish I knew how to reproduce it at will so I could run the log server.
Just in case any of this is helpful:

Yep, I had this too. Good tip on restarting sound engine.
I also have Realtek, which apparently CCP only barely supports. If you have one, you know what I mean, with the crashing bug and all.
And the GM's posting fixes that don't fix as well was just another red herring. Guess I'll have to dig out my sound card from 2004 to work for a game from 2003, regardless of the "new" sound engine. Sincerely, K'reemy ---

I have a soundblaster card and last night, I dragged an item from cargo to Items and the sound for that kept repeating. It really gets to you after a while!

I too get a lot of "stuck" sounds from locking targets and dragging items. Seems to happen when the condition that normally result in the sound stopping (target locked, item dropped) is aborted (target explodes before lock, invalid item transfer). I've also had some cases where sound went "dead" by itself.

Oh, so this is how you stop that annoying targeting sound. Today I had to log off and on again while helping on a level 4 mission to get rid of it :(
