Since customizable UI seems to be too dangerous for CCP to implement, at least make the standard UI better.
- New module buttons are an insult. It is often hard to spot on a quick glance if they are active. even worse, check the other thread that has a pic how they look for colorblinds - In space rightclick menu needs lots of polish aswell - Overview font is too big, on a 1280x1024 sceen I have a hard time getting enough columns displayed without having the overview taking half of the screen - Talking about the fonts, the current eve font is just junk when letters and numbers get mixed a lot. Setting it to condensed mode makes it even harder to read (That might have helped with the overview problem)

Agreed.
That said, CCP knows that the UI needs help. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in the first live dev blog. Personally, I don't expect a UI overhaul until after Revelations III.

Why would they pay someone to do that when we pay them to do it?

CCP is hiring as it is. The suggestion is that one of them should be a usability/UI expert.

Drone menu also needs a major overhaul. Adding 2 buttons with attack target and return to drone bay that affect all drones in space would be already a godsend compared to the rightclicking madness.
Most stuff already has been suggested somewhere, but hey, adding a button that overloads the complete rack seems to be more important than to have all modules in the rack activate ___

Shouldn't need new staff. HCI theory is a basic element of any software qualification. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game three years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

Well, if CCP made the UI customizable, you'd get programming freaks like DS to give the users information not normally obtainable. Look at WoW for example, that Cosmos GUI plugin can give you everything from the persons level, to the last skill they used, to the time of their last bowel movement.

The UI modder only gets the info the game provides to the programming interface. So either the original user interface is inferior, or the programming interface isn't restrictive enough.
That is a lot of interfaces in a few sentences ___

well not completely true. I used to work with embedded systems operating systems and drivers. NEver needed that :P

Studying (way too long ) applied computer science but only had a single course on HCI which only covers the basics what stuff there is. I know there are branches of studies that specialize more on that, learning all about ergomics and psychology of HCI and all that.

The activation graphics for the modules has been pants for a long time.
The current situation, where you have a green bar at the top of each module and a slow flashing, faint green, background is just...........GRRRR
Try looking at the modules with large guns in a system with a bright background.
Great patch CCP, but fix this *******s asap (change the flashing to yellow or white or something more prominent in the short term. That doesn't need a full UI rewrite for goodness sake.

The one thing, the only thing, I do not like about the new patch is the module buttons. Like what they do, just not how they look. Waaaay to hard to see.
My overview is tiny, got plenty of room for it. Maybe its a resolution issue; if I make the window bigger, the font size stays the same.

I'm starting to think I'm the only one who absolutely loves the new buttons. I can actually see them! Imagine that! Before I had to reposition my camera so that the buttons would be over some dark piece of space (god forbid it was one of the bright systems, in which case it was me squinting at 6 inches from my monitor). Now I can position the camera so that the buttons are directly over the brightest sun and I can still see the modules and which ones are active. The only time that I can't tell when it's active is the 0.2 seconds between when the glow completely fades and starts increasing in intensity again. I just can't see 0.2 seconds being that big of an issue.
That said, they should definitely look into the colorblindness issue. If the pics I've seen are at all accurate for people with colorblindness, I do feel very sorry for them. CCP should provide some option to change the glow color at the very least... perhaps they could also change the shape of the button when it's active - that would solve everyone's complaints I think.
