I have been trying to get the Eve client to load since the server came bak up. I installed the patch as I normally would. I went to run it, and I got the picture like I normally would. After a few seconds the picture just goes away. I am running Vista Home Premium, so I tryed to run Eve as administrator. Same thing happend. I next tryed deleting my eve cash folder. That didn't work either. I next uninstalled eve then did a fresh download from the site and reinstalled the client. Same problem. I next tryed the run as administrator again. No changes. I then uninstalled and did another fesh download and install. Same issues. And again I tryed running the program as administrator. Again, no changes. I am completely frustrated, and at a stand still. Any ideas?

Same problem here. Today I formatted my hard-drive, re-installed Windows Xp and Eve client. Everything was fine and I was able to play, but with some major graphic glith. So I updated to the latest drivers for my graphic card (a crappy ATI IGP 350M), that is the Catalyst 7.5 installed via DH tools. I had them before the formatting. Now I get the splash screen, but then the log-in windows doesn't appear. The process ExeFile.exe process is still running, I just can't see the window.

"Solved" the problem downgrading my drivers to the factory ones. I were using ATI Catalyst 7.5, and that version was working fine before Revelation II. Now I'm trying Omega and DNA, I'll keep you informed.

Ok I don't know if thats the problem but what worked for me was to open the eve.exe file straight from folders instead of with a shortcut.. works fine now.. but the shortcut still does the glitch..

Edited by: Han Quattro on 20/06/2007 22:27:42 Hmmm! This sounds like the same problem I'm having with my MacBook Pro. Maybe it's not a MacTel/Boot Camp problem, but s wierd XP problem. Any dev insight here??
In reply to above, I've tried to start from EVE.exe, even ExeFile.exe, but no go.

No matter what I use i still have the same problem. I have tried the one on my desktop, the one in my start menu, and the one in the EVE folder.

I had this problem repeatedly after I downloaded the patch, no matter what I did. I am running XP Home on that computer. Finally, I downloaded the full installation, but I did not install Eve immediately. Instead, I manually removed all of the directories that the uninstallation process did not remove. This included the new Eve directory under My Documents, which had a tremendous number of log files. In fact, I could not remove the Gamelogs directory, and Windows very helpfully suggested that either my disk was full or another program was using the file it was trying to delete. I could find nothing in my process list that could have caused the error, but some process was blocking me from deleting files or renaming the parent directory. This was AFTER I had uninstalled Eve, so the rogue process probably had something to do with the Windows OS. I rebooted, and tried to delete the directory. Again, I had the same problem.
Finally, I solved the problem by rebooting and, instead of trying to delete the EVE directory, I changed its name to EVEx. This worked! I then was able to delete the EVEx directory. I installed the full system, and the client started up fine. I suspect that the Gamelogs directory or a file index that XP controls got corrupted somehow during the update, and that prevented access to the Gamelogs directory. So wipe your Eve system clean and do a full reinstallation.

Won't help me. Brand new Windows XP installation. Brand new EVE installation. It won't even create the proper folders in either My Documents or Documents and Settings. And yes, I have full admin privileges. The client simply won't start. Flashes the initial splash screen up for a half second or so and then nothing.

Just the same, I would try to wipe your system clean and reinstall again. Maybe the installation suffered some kind of runtime glitch that corrupted one of your directories. If you find the same error when you try to manually delete the Eve residue after uninstallation, then the file corruption problem could be what is causing your problem. There has to be something that is blocking the client from starting up, and I can vouch for the fact that the client does work even on my old clunker of a machine.

I had this problem. Newly built-system, fresh install of Windows XP (fully up-dated), Eve was the first program installed after the OS. I got a quick flash of the splash screen then nothing.
Here's the solution that worked for me:

Ok, now to the solution. I had been analyzing my system event log and noticed a number of error events when I attempted to load Eve. Looking them up on google (event 58 and 59), I stumbled upon a recommendation to re-download Windows Visual C++ runtimes. I did so and viola, I'm now in Eve.
Here's a link to the download from microsoft: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtimes

Wait a minute. Your problem is different. You simply did not install the client properly. Something probably went wrong during your installation of the full system. That is not what caused my problem. Mine was caused by the patch update. Uninstall what you did install and manually delete all the directories that the installation created but did not remove. Then try to reinstall the client.
I've installed and reinstalled numerous times, using a freshly downloaded client at least three times. If you read my post, you'll see that there were no folders to delete. The client doesn't get far enough to even create them in the first place. They aren't created with the install, they're created with the first start of the client. Let me repeat: A clean install of Win XP followed by a clean install of EVE, followed by numerous uninstalls and reinstalls, at least three times with a fresh download of the client. My problem is, apparently, caused by the new build and possibly the new placement of the cache and settings folders. It appears to be similar to a number of other posters in this thread. And yes, as I said, I have full admin privileges on my own machine, obviously.

I humbly bow to your genius. That's exactly what was wrong. You have made my day, my week, heck, the whole month of July. Thank you.

Mine was a problem with the graphic drivers... I had to downgrade from Catalyst 7.5 to 6.5, that in fact is the right version for my non-supported IGP 350M; now everything is working like before Rev II (but I was using Catalyst 7.5 back then!)
