Make sure you put a little brass plate under it saying: "Example of how *not* to design the cover art to get people to buy a game."

Congratulations on joining the few elite who own the EVE manual
If it still has the same stuff it had back in 2003, its priceless to read.
A lil snippet from the Holy Book of EVE: "If your character chooses to eject from a ship, or the ship was blown up, he or she will reappear adrift in space in an..." *cough* "...escape capsule."
So yeah, i have a problem with being serious, but it's the almost smallest problem i have. |

I've got the box also. Think I paid a lot more than ú4.99 for it though lol.
I remember being quite annoyed looking for the game on the day of release in shops only to find it was exclusive to GAME stores.

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 21/06/2007 09:49:45 I saw EVE in a store only once after it got released in 2003. That cought my interest. But I didn't have a reliable internet connection and think a credit card was required. So it was not for me. Later I was checking all shops for that game, but didn't find it anymore.
So I kept playing other stuff. Sometime in Castor I discovered EVE again. I heard about a trial, payment via GTC and found a link to french gaming magazine that offered trial keys. Somehow they were not openly available, don't know why. I noticed that refreshing that french page always got me a new trial key so I clicked a bit and copy and pasted, just in case I needed to try a bit more, until I like EVE. I still have 25 or 30 of those, just in case. I thought maybe some friends want some later and then I don't have enough for myself in the end.
Now 7 of those have been used, 4 are paying accounts. Never saw the eve box again though. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

Game was the only store selling it here (uk), I was at the store at 9:15 in the morning, picked up 2 copies, home 30 minutes later, logged in created my one and only main char, sent my friend the second key code and away we went, in game mining in 0.5 in frigs by 11'oclock on the first day, damm it was fun back then.
And madly i found the game case less than 4 days ago, its now sitting in my room, and to all those that say vets have an advantage, blame the manual its full of sneaky tips and tricks that are still useable today!

I dont think I read the bit that said "don't put all your attribute points into charisma".
I had no clue at all. I hadn't read any faq or doc about the game, started the client after downloading, read the race and bloodline descriptions, believed everything I read and constructed my own theory, what I can do in this game and which attributes I need. I chose minmatar, because I like to play rebels and underdogs.
I thought I can become a fighter pilot, a mechanic like Scotty in Enterprise, or a commander of something bigger and telling my crew what to do etc. I thought, if I want to become a fighter pilot, I need perception and willpower, for a commander also charisma and to become Scotty the mechanic, I'd need intelligence. I didn't want to become Scotty the mechanic, so I didn't put much points in intelligence.
Well, my imagination during char creation proved a bit wrong, but this is still the same char with the borked intelligence/memory attributes. ___________ 'Only ships can be assembled, this is a Frigate.' |

Yea, I had similar imaginations...
Its a real let down when you realise that attributes ONLY effect training time!.. and once you do some rough maths you realise that it doesnt even effect them by that much!
A point or two extra here and there doesnt make much difference. I know some people may think that a few days here and there impact there life significantly but it doesnt make you a better or worse pilot and makes you no more or less capable or doing anything that anyone else can do :(

I remember when I bought a PCG mag that had a trial for eve in it. Distinctly remember thinking 'cba with that probablly a load of rubbish'...
Friend got me to try it 2 years later...
2 1/2 years on from the first try and I'm still playing . Properly activated my account not after the 2 week trial period, but after 3 hours of playing the game.
Signature removed due to lack of Eve-related content. -Ivan K Fair enough Ivan, sorry :( - Flash |

Got my boxed copy of eve back in Nov 03 in a shop that had one of those "buy a game get one free deals". Got the game I was after and couldnt decide which game I wanted free, then I saw eve and I thought yeah why not, give it a go.
To this day the game I was actually after that day is still in its wrapper unopened. Best buy one get one free deals I ever had. (reckon the shop must have messed up on that deal lol).
