I've been flying galente for a while and decided to fly minmatar for a change of pace recently. For missions it seems the myrmidon would own compared to the hurricane and the cyclone... but is this necessarily true???

And how big a difference in effectiveness would there be??? This is for level 3 missions... I'll still fly a domi for Level 4's :).

To be honest, if you are definitely planning on flying a Dominix for level 4 missions, you should just stick with the Myrmidon. If you max all of your drone and support skills, then when you are ready for level 4 missions you will be in good shape for the Dominix.
I have not tried the Minimatar ships in missions, but I do know that they tend to be very effective in PvP.

The cross race faction ships are nice.
My main is Minmatar, and trained up Galente to fly the Machriel and it was worth it.

Unless you're planning on PvP just train Caldari.
It will save you a lot of frustration.
If you are planning to PvP: Gallente are excellent at PvP and passable at PvE (although better than the other 2 non-Caldari races)

Phoon is just about the only PvE ship the minny have - but if you're looking for PvP, you can really go with either. Gallente tend to be close-range heavy hitters, while minmatar tend to be long or mid range fighters. A tempest, when pilotted correctly, can beat a megathron, and visa versa.
It really just depends on your play style. Say what? |

Gallente are more "Stand up & fight" ships, for groups, etc.
Minmatar are more "Kill anything that can catch you" ships, better for solo work.
Vagabond (Minmatar HAC) = Solopwnmobile. Huginn/Rapier (Minmatar Recon) = One of the best small gang support ships in the game.
Whatever you do, DON'T train Caldari or missiles, unless you're looking to be effectively purely in PVE.
Also, avoid Amarr, as their ship bonuses make them playable, rather than making them powerful.

If your a *****, and like to run away, take minimatar. They have many nice nano(stab) monkey ships. Great damage, great speed, great tank cant go wrong with that

I can't speak to the effectiveness compared to other race ships but a maelstrom is very effective for missions. It doesn't seem to get much mention so I thought I'd throw it out there. I cook stuff at 65km and under with 8 1400's, drones eat anything that manages to get close. I've never lost one in a mission and if you're thinking of going with a faction shield booster I'm not sure how you'd manage to get it destroyed.

I use the maelstrom for missions as well and I like it. I tend to use autocannons with barrage and falloff rigs because it kills a lot faster, but it does indeed eat ammo like crazy so you dont make much money during a mission.

In my eyes the minmatar bc would be alot better for missions, unless you can tank full aggro on all missions. If Somethings hard doing its not worth doing, But get going anyway  |

I am not trying to hijack the thread but I fly both Minmater and Amarr and I would take the Abaddon over the Maelstrom in missions for the reason that you mentioned. Mael just uses too much ammo.
Abbadon will quickly shred any non Angel rat to pieces especially with Mega pulses and the Faction crystals that missions runners now have easy access to. The tank on the thing is great too. People whine about the Abaddon Cap issues but I am not seeing it in pve.
