Edited by: Kudikai on 18/01/2004 06:21:15 Apparently the new jump-in strategy is to sit at a gate beyond the range of sentry guns but within range of the people who come through. Use tachs with radio crystals, or 1400mm's, or whatever; then lock onto the targets immediately and take advantage of the fact that they are not cloaked (as they should be) and blow them up.
Question is: how much of this is valid strategy? I have been hearing several different rumors:
1) Sentry guns will have longer ranges so pirates can't just sit there and camp while the sentries flounder.
2) Jump-in cloaking is not working correctly. Sometimes you come out of a jump without being cloaked (especially if you return to a system you were in recently). I know this is true as it happens to me all the time.
3) Targeting speed mods are stacking incorrectly so PKs can target you almost immediately.
Does anyone have any insite toward any of this? If this is the way things are supposed to work, fine. I am just curious as to what (if anything) I can expect to change in the future. Thanks.

Jump in cloaking is not working correctly. It's fixed on Chaos, allegedly, and awaiting the next update.

Edited by: Hanns on 18/01/2004 06:26:48 How about every player has a automatic sentry gun the orbits there ship as soon as they enter empire space, and if the set a foot wrong it insta ganks the player within a seconds notice?
or how about whenever someone destroys someone elses ship in empire space, there ship also gets destroyed?
or better yet, how about CCP remove all guns from eve, and everyone can have fun and mine and do agent couriour missions all day long with no hasstle?

1. this will make about every single pirate in empire leave to 0.0 and there arent excacly many in 0.0 now, so why not make weapons offline in empire unless you see a corp that you are in war with.
2. cloaking is bugged but being worked on atm.
3. think stacking on targeting speed modules is working right, most peaple just use a lot of them when camping gates.

Edited by: Infinity Ziona on 18/01/2004 08:15:17 The uncloaking thing is a bug, nothing more. If some pirate kills you because you didn't cloak on loading then I guess thats just bad luck; on the flip side you sometimes jump over a blockade that would have surely creamed you thanks to the same bug, so it evens out I guess.

How can you tell if a player cloaked/decloaked properly?

"How can you tell if a player cloaked/decloaked properly?"
... When someone arrives in normal way, the jump gate lights up and then after shorter or longer pause their ship makes that nasty sound that gives me creeps, when it decloaks. When they arrive decloaked thanks to bug, i think it's just with the usual 'boom' like on undock if anything at all... and the gate doesn't light up beforehand, because they appear light years from the gate they're supposedly jumping through -.o

Well you did neglect to mention it. Personally I disliked the cloaking effect being used for jumping in.
When cloaking devices finally are introduced, they'll be rather bland. The effect has been overabused.

Edited by: Valan on 18/01/2004 09:24:26 What really bugs me! Is that the cloak bug only seems to occur in the camped system. I thought it was psychological at first. I only notice the bug when it matters. So on a 22 jump round trip I had to do about 5 times, I made sure I was paying attention. Not a bad idea anyway as its all low sec and I needed to activate my MWDs and burners.
The cloak worked in every system apart from Ostingele. Typical!!!!

No EVE is a game of teamplay and fleet tactics. The best player is the player with the best friends and the best tactics, not to mention the best coordination and organization.
1on1 fights are a battle of module quality, game knowledge and pure luck. Bigger fights are battles of skill. -

People fail to realize that this kind of empire space camping is comparable to carebears mining. We don't do it because we want to fight, we do it so we can recycle your crappy loot and build some more missiles.
Atleast our victims can warp away or jump, or even shoot back. Your victims just sit there and get slowly eaten alive while all their friends and family watch, unable to interfere. Horrid.
Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes some nublar, wrecking for 1155.0 damage. |

If you are worried about jumping into a camped system uncloaked then you should log out for a minute or two before you start on your trip.
This solves the cloaking problem.
