Quote: EVE Online has another record-breaking weekend
Its great and all for Eve to get a boost of about 2k people at peak, but honestly I'm not sure if they should be too proud of those numbers considering the lag/DB crashes that accompanied the weekend. Especially during the US prime time.
If CCP really does have hopes of hitting the 300k mark of subscribers with in the year there is going to be a massive need to fix/improve as much as absolutely possible if there is even a hope of hitting that mark, and holding. -- *snip* Your signature exceeds the maximum filesize (24,000bytes) and also the signature dimensions 400x120 pixels -TheDagda ([email protected]) |

I think they should be very proud.
Let's see you do better.

Many of the problems will have been more about the usual post-patch problems than the number of players.
And lag is not a universal problem usualy. It's just that most of those who don't suffer much from lag don't post about it. You are more likely to be affected by lag in Jita or a deep space constellation with a couple of roaming big fleet blobs. Outside of doing the Deltole complex I find lag to be a very rare problem personaly. I'm hardly ever in Jita.
Plus - not all lag problems are about the eve cluster. Sometimes it's client-side - or regional network related. A while ago an asian undersea cable ripped and f*cked up the connections of many east asian players - without affecting the rest of the world. Just an example.

Crashes are to be expected, it's right after a patch. The crashes are not being caused by record breaking numbers of online players.
Lag on the other hand i can agree with you, they need to take more steps in working out how to improve performance |

I where playing on sunday during the peak hours, when aprox 35k players where online, and I had no lag. Might be because I keep busy in low population area? You know, EVE have like 5100 systems, and I have no problems finding very good systems to operate from - even in empire! - without lag at all.
I visited also jita one day, had some lag allirte and I where watchin local. And people where predictably complaining about lag. I told them, why not move out from Jita? But guess what? Many could not even start to comprehend the idea... at that point i took my leave and went back to my lag free system.

Aside from Jita, I felt no real lag anywhere on Saturday and Sunday (in empire or in 0.0) even when there were 35k characters logged in. And in Jita, even with 800 people in local, it still wasn't so laggy that I couldn't do what I needed to do when I was there. ------------------

While the downtime was regrettable, let's put this in perspective. CCP has a good track record of keeping this game stable. As far as MMOs go, I've been very, very happy with the stability and lag (lack of lag) in EVE on the whole.

Just to note, Jita is not the only system with very heavy lag. Nonni In Lonetrek can be very very bad if there are many more than 80 people in the system
And also just as a side note !Why does Lonetrek have so many freaking station!!!, Nonni alone has about 20, and the low sec areas surrounding it have 5-10 them selves. -- *snip* Your signature exceeds the maximum filesize (24,000bytes) and also the signature dimensions 400x120 pixels -TheDagda ([email protected]) |
