THE STORY Yeh so i tried reinstalling the test client on my computer (after the patch it didnt want to work anymore so i deleted it). After i installed and patched bla bla bla... i tried running it and, hey presto, didnt work. It loaded the splash, then just left a black square in the middle of my screen with the music playing. So i thought bollox to that, deleted it and tried to go on TQ instead with my normal client. Hey Presto! Same problem. My original client was working fine before i tried reinstalling the test client. So i tred reinstalling my client and it still doesnt work.
THE PROBLEM Client Loads the splash then turns into a black box in the centre of my screen with the music playing. *BTW im running Vista Home Premium
Any ideas? --------------------------- HAHA! your jammers suck now! Oh wait whats happening to my scorpion... |

Kill the cache. Its hidden in documents and settings.. (literally a hidden folder C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE)
the test client puts stuff there as well as the TQ client. and if one tries to read info from the other, nothing works.

Edited by: Braaage on 26/06/2007 10:54:31 On vista it's in a different location:
c:\users\%username%\appdata\local\CCP\eve Cache and Settings
c:\users\%username%\Documents\eve Chatlogs and images
If you can't see the appdata folder its because it's hidden, just copy and paste the path into the Start button, start search bar.
Also if you add /end /LUA:OFF to the end of the EVE command it will retain the cache and settings in the original location. This is a MUST if you run a Sisi (test server) client and a TQ client as mixing the cache/settings is proving to cause a black screen startup.
Example command line: "E:\eveonline\Eve Sisi\eve.exe" /end /LUA:OFF

You have to do it before you start your client for the first time, I believe. Uninstall / reinstall, add the /end /LUA:off thing, then start it again. --------

yeah well i reinstalled everything and now ill just wait till its fixed before i get a new sisi patch. Its ******* anoying tho, how do these kinds of things get into the patch anyway... they know half their player base has and usees multiple clients at once. Be it alts or TQ and SISI. You would think they had tested it...
As a customer i shouldnt be forced to add code stff to my gamefiles in order to play, i pay them to do that for me :-/
I can take alot but ccp seems to be making alot of these stupid mistakes lately....

Firstly, adding a command line modifier is NOT adding lines of code to the game's files. It wasn't more than a few short years ago that ALL programs were started via text shell commands like that. I'm pretty sure all computer users should be familiar enough with their machine to handle a simple addition to a command line (and if they're not, they should be willing to learn- it's bread and butter computer use).
Secondly, nowhere does it state that playing on SISI is a right. You don't pay for it, it is not part of your subscription, and it is not part of the game. Going on SISI is volunteering to help bug-test the game, as a volunteer bug hunter. Not being able to volunteer as a bug hunter really isn't a priority problem for CCP. --------
