It's so sudden. Before I left there was none of this. When I got back I saw it once, and thought it was a once off. And then again. And again. There are cats in signatures FFS. How did this all happen so suddenly? --nvm-- I've always hated rulefaggotry, but seeing such frequent use of these memes outside *chan is frankly embarrassing. You always hear that this is going to happen, but I've never seen it to such an extent before. 'Lolcats' are a great example. - You keep using that word . . . I do not think it means what you think it means

Lolcats are now used far and wide beyond chan, and have their own sites dedicated to them. Hell, lolcats are bigger on Flickr and ICanHazCheezburger than they are on *chans themselves. The biggest example is Rickrolling, where Family Guy intentionally rickrolled on live television just weeks after the fad began. He posted a link to a "GTA4 gameplay video" that was actually a link to Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up."
