Does not make sense. Lost my Raven to it and the undestroyed equipment got picked up by someone else as I could not leave the station to get it. Makes me wonder why I am playing the game.

Were you on a mission? It may be that someone scanned you down and in the heat of the action, you targeted them.
We were joking around with some friends and wondered what would happen if someone named their character "Pithi Avenger" or some name close to a real enemys name and then scanned people out of missions. hmmm... could someone have done that? hmmmmm

You could have fired on a wreck that "belonged" to a gangmate who killed the NPC while you were not nearby.
This happened to me, but with the autofire bug after I rightclicked on a wreck with the intention of looting it.

No gangmate. I was alone in the mission and it was a mission assigned by my agent.

You'd have to have ignored the warning, or turned the warning screen off, but could you have targetted a station or other object that wasn't a legitimate target? Missions often contain 'innocent' static objects like mining camps, etc, and shooting them is still verboten.

The scenario I posted about was also also NPC created and filled with NPC wrecks, but it doesnt look like this was the case here.
