PC PowerPlay Issue #141: August 2007 (Australian Issue) features two Eve Online articles.
The first is a double-page article Eve Online: The Worlds Largest Game Universe by Nathan*****s. It is a re-review that looks at how the game has changed and continues to grow while remaining true to the core concept that founded its initial release. Here's a snippet:
Originally by: Nathan*****s, PC Powerplay Issue #141 Not everyone has the time nor wishes to engage in that much effort to enjoy a game. However those gamers ready for the commitment will find an incredibly deep and engaging world to play in, filled with perhaps the most mature and enthusiastic game community to be found in an MMO.
It was rated from Low/Medium/High as follows:
Community: High Stability: High Longevity: High
Pros: Looks beautiful, player actions matter & great online community. Cons: Steep learning curve, time consuming & PvP focus may be off putting to some. Overall: An extremely niche title honed to near perfection - "Superb".
The second is a single-page article The Wolves & the Watchment by Greg Sagely. It is an expos'e on CCP's management of the relationships between employees, volunteers & its players.
Here's a snippet:
Originally by: Greg Sagely, PC Powerplay Issue #141 The problem is that when the alarms were sounded, the searchlights swivelled in the wrong direction. The fact that Eve is a great success story makes this a pointed issue. It's a small developer taking on the big boys and presenting a unique product that opens a very-much player-motivated world. When we see these problems they highlight the issues of having a small tight-knit team...and the dangers of being in contact with your players.
The screenshots were pretty average and CCP's internal affairs failed to respond to the author of the second article but referred the 'official posts' made previously, which in my view is a failed PR opportunity. But overall I'm delighted it is getting the coverage it deserves and is a positive sign that Eve's star continues to rise.
I don't think this constitutes an infringement of copyright, but if I have feel free to lock/delete the thread. For those Aussies interested be sure to pickup a copy of PC Powerplayer August issue.

Have you ever played ffxi? The besiged content in aht urhgan lags worse with 80 players than a large scale fleet battle(100+ vs 100+) . Give CCP a break it's not easy maintaining a server that has the amount of players that TQ hosts at any given time.

I've played both. The EQ client was unstable until... probably until the Shadows of Luclin expansion came out. Of course by then, the class imbalance and mudflation issues had gotten totally out of control, but the client was stable. WoW on the other hand was smooth as glass.
Of course, both games are completely lame, but that's a different matter entirely.

I dunno, PC Gamer has had some decent articles in the past few months, and they normally drop in mentions of eve monthly. Was the whole GHSC thing that resparked my intrest in eve (though looking back now, there is definitely nothing good about corp theft on that scale)

Their recent(ish) coverage of T20-gate was actually pretty poor and uniformed, but yes in general they tend to have mention Eve at least every other month and their articles are pretty decent. - - - - - - - - - -

Edited by: Nathuran Reynolds on 03/07/2007 03:16:45 Edited by: Nathuran Reynolds on 03/07/2007 03:15:55 Howdy folks... just ran across this thread while having an idyll peruse the forums. I wasn't logged in at the time but want to express my deep offense that my surname is censored if you aren't logged in. :P
I hope those who snagged a copy of PC Powerplay #141 enjoyed the re-review and agreed with most, if not all, of what I said. ;)
Sorry about the screenshots too... they looked much better before getting to print I promise! :D

Yeah and the last time they mentioned the EIB scam they quoted it being 820 Million or something small like that. It was pretty laughable that they would get a number like that wrong on an already disproved scam.

"CCP's internal affairs failed to respond to the author of the second article but referred the 'official posts' made previously, "
How can you expect them to get good coverage of events when CCP won't even talk to them? And yes, they pointed them to posts, but those could easily be confusing for someone who doesn't play the game. Plus, honestly, giving a journalist a "cut and paste" response in incredibly boneheaded, at least in my book.

Edited by: Nathuran Reynolds on 04/07/2007 01:59:56 Seems there are some wires being crossed in this thread.
The articles come from PC Powerplay as mentioned in the OP. And it was in this magazine that an attempt for an interview was made with no response other than references or official posts on the matter.
Latter in the thread conversation turned to PC Gamer which is a UK magazine (yes, yes it is a US mag too but the UK version is the one that gives all the EVE love :P). The coverage of T20 was PC Gamer not us.
It wasn't PC Gamer that got referred to the posts it was PC Powerplay.
P.S. Regarding the stability thing EVE has never given me any grief and runs more solid than many other MMOs I've had to review in my time with the mag. I stand by my comment of 'superb'.

I was playin Anarchy online, then Eve then WoW, now eve again... for the most part i find eve minus the quibbles of young obsessive whining little biotches like that found in WoW and i certainly don't miss the o'l general chat spam.
