I would have thought carriers and dreads are becoming popular enough to list on the market.
Are there really so few of them being sold? I would have thought PBOs/PBCs would be more easily available than for faction ships.

I can also confirm that the guristas pirates have a titan. We tried to kill it but unfortunately it mwded away at 5k/second and smacked us in local.

There is a dread for sale on the market right next door in Sobaseki.
You should go buy it.

You can only build them in lowsec. Also carriers are roughly 1b dreads rougly 2b, fittings add anywhere from 500m for t2 to many billions with no upper limit in sight for deadspace/officer stuff.

Of course, I probably couldn't fly it either, but I could polish it lovingly on Sunday mornings.

Normally dreads are around 1.7bil.. I think, that one is so expensive because it's a highsec DN, a rare thing, since you can't build em there anymore, the more important question yo ask yourself is: Can I fit it and fly it (reasonably) well?
By the way, carriers are the cheaper capital ships, around a bil, sometimes even less. (though fighters are quite expensive)

not even if they are war-targets or stole from you?
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
If you use it in any combat and you are petitioned you'll get (at the best case) moved or (at the worst case) warned or banned.
Carriers are the capital ship of choice for poorer peeps.
They are 10x more versatile than dreadnoughts, and pack more of a punch against smaller targets.
Dreads are good for one thing: destroying stations + other capital ships (yes, they're carrier killers).
Carriers can transport around 12-15km^3 instantly over the longest jump distance ingame (Carriers have the longest jump range compared to all other jump capable ship classes). They're the ultimate support ship, especially now with Triage module + heat, with capital shield transporter, remote armour repper, remote structure repper, and energy transporter. Their fighters can take on a few battleships, with the agility of an inty, matched with the firepower of a cruiser.
In a small fleet skirmish, they can keep gang members alive + energised, carry shedloads of ammo for everyone, and attack the other fleet. A dreadnought would just sit there in the same situation, possibly in siege mode which means it can't hit anything smaller than a moon, but wud tank the entire enemy fleet.
Carriers get all this for 700M less than a dreadnought. -----------------------
