I'm a Newbie and I am not sure that I understand the system properly. This is what I think I know:
1 - You cannot create Blueprints - can only buy 2 - Must buy original to research 3 - Research original (copy=no) 4 - Then copy original 5 - From copy and sell it for someone else to produce or 6 - Can produce item from copy. How close is all this? And I don't understand the copy issue - how many can you copy and how many can you produce?

1: There are three sources of blueprints, namely the market, agents and loot. But basically no, you cannot create a bp. 2+3: Again yes. You can only do research on an original bp. 4: You do not have to research a bp to be able to copy it. You can start copying it before you research it if you want, but that is a little bit pointless. 5+6: Once you have a copy of your blueprint you can either sell the copy to someone else and they can produce from it or you can use the copy yourself to produce from.
There are currently no limits to the number of copies you can make from an original bp. What is limited is the number of products that the copy can make. An original bp can make an unlimited number of products, but when you create a bp copy you can choose, up to a maximum (which is bp type dependent), how many products that the bp copy will be able to produce.
Example: Player buys a 250mm railgun bp from market. Player can now copy, mineral research or productivity research the bp original. If player chooses to copy the bp the player will be asked for a number or products that the bp copy will be capable of producing (max 1000 for this bp i think). Player now has a bp original and a bp copy. Player can now either sell the bp copy or produce 1000 railguns from the bp. Player can also choose to produce an infinite number of railguns from the original. At any time the player can choose to research or copy the original again.
Hmmm. hope that was clear enough :)

Are there any agent jobs or looting that can be done by a rookie that might produce bp's?

Yes. If you work for a corporation that sells blueprints, you sometime may be rewarded with blueprints as part of a bonus in a mission.
For example, look at Lai Dai corp. They sell some blueprints from their stations, and if you work for them you can earn some blueprints. These are the same type as the ones you can buy from the market place.
However, if you are talking about acquiring new technology blueprints, then that can only be done through the use of a Research Agent. An agent in a corporation that has a R&D department, that if you have the science skills to use (possibly not if you are very new), you can do get them to do research on the off-chance you might be lucky enough to get a blueprint.
