Mazaron	Posted - 2007.06.30 23:33:00 - [1] Well, I thought how much better the Cormorant would look if both wings were symmetrical, so I decided to do just that. Scatim Helicon GoonFleet GoonSwarm	Posted - 2007.06.30 23:51:00 - [2] The cormorant is one of the few Caldari ships that isn't eye-breakingly ugly to begin with, so while your version is nice its not all that much different from the original. If you were to take a shot at the Blackbird or the Griffin though... those are two ships that would benefit more from a design tweak.
Mazaron	Posted - 2007.07.01 00:06:00 - [3] I agree with you, but that wing just ruined the whole ship design for me so I had to do something about it just to see what it would look like if we could have the wings symmetrical. I doubt I could do very much to a ships structure in general as I've never really done any modelling before except very basic stuff such as this. I could always give it a shot though.

Taking half a ship and then randomly gluing some boxes and tubes onto the other side like the blackbird just makes me want to claw my eyes out.

I've decided to attempt to redesign the raven as I need to learn how to model anyway for the Interactive Games Design course I'm going to be doing in college in September. Who knows I may end up working for CCP haha. I'll probably be specializing in spaceship design and mech design anyway. I'll post the updated version of the raven after it's completed.

I think assymetry is fine as long as it could be explained as being "functional"(aka technical reason for being assymetric). For a realworld example, look at an aircraft carrier. That's not symetric for a functional reason. Crystal-Slave, that way?

I do realise that this is a thread about the looks of the ships and not the physics of them, sorry for going slightly off topic I think that Raven V2 quoted above looks amazingly sexy tho The person who said 'violence never solves anything' has obviously never thrown a Rubix cube at a wall

Majority of them are just plain fugly, many don't follow any logic whatsoever, and others are just the 'odd one out' in the overall theme of their race. A ship design contest to settle it once and for all would be fantastic.

The raven needs some serious love though, as does the osprey. The Raven V2 looks bettter, though I think it just needs to be less fat (I think more thin vertically) and create a more elongated, jaggy, flying wing design. I might try to redesign some Eve ships when my vacation begins :) I actually like the design of Blackbird. There's only a couple of things I would change. Scorp isn't that bad either but needs some redesignin. Raven is so fugly that I seriously hope CCP is going to redesign it completely.
