Does anyone have any experience with playing Eve on a laptop?
It seems to me that with laptops performance is proportional to weight. A decent laptop is very heavy, and the lightweights are useless. Battery technology is also poorly developed imho. Money is less of an issue, but I reckon at 2000 Euros I'd call it a day.
Any advice on which laptop to choose?

I have two Dell laptops that both run Eve smoothly on. An XPS M1710 (1920x1200), and a Latitude D620. Neither have problems and I can get about 4 hours on the Latitude (about 90 mins on the XPS). :)

I use a IBM Lenovo Z60m (2.00 gHz Pentium M, 1gb RAM), it has a 15" widescreen (nice non-reflective surface) which I use at 1280x800 when moving around , otherwise plugged to a 20" widescreen with 1680x1050 at home, works great. Dual accounting works OK, tho not brilliant in PVP so I never risk that.
It's not exactly lightweight but not heavy enough to bother me at all, Lenovo's laptops are sturdy and can take quite a beating compared to other laptops I've tried, and for that I can live with a slightly heavier computer than others with the same specs. The battery holds up reliably for 4-5 hours in high performance mode.
This thing set me back about 2000 Euros when I bought it in Jan. 2006 and has never given me any serious trouble at all. I'd definitely recommend this (or whatever equivalent they have out today).

Acer Aspire 5670 here (Centrino duo 1.66GHz, ATI mobility radeon X1400 1 GB DDR2). Gets a bit hot at times (regardless of which game being played) but plays eve no problems. Only play plugged into mains though battery life bout 3 hours on average.
