I'm a CGI artist, I do alot of space stuff and such, but i have never ever been able to figure out how these guys did the EVE backdrops, some of those nebulas are really amazing with the "bubbles" here and there and the "towers" of spacedust.. Did they like paint it in photoshop or used some certain plugin or something?
Or do anyone know where i could turn to get in contact with the EVE devs? Thanks!

You could try [email protected].
"The sky above the port was the color of a television, tuned to a dead channel." |

If you think Eve's backdrops are amazeing I really do suggest you try out the game 'Freelancer' (published by microsoft) They used images taken by the hubble space telescope to make them. They dont look half bad :)

I know CCP used Maya and there is a tool in the application called Paint Effects. The environments are textured on huge cubes. The Paint Effects tool allows you to paint directly onto the surface of an object which is an easy way to create a seemless texture on the objects UV map aswell. There are brushes within this tool that create nebulas, star fields and other cosmics textures. You can also create your own brushes or modify the defualt ones. This is what I'm GUESSING CCP did and used to create the environments.
