Headline is for those of you aware of the pirate carebear foundation known as FE with a sideorder of M0o and all its trimmings. This idea is to hopefully move pirates towards a state of carefully planned blockades and selective targeting.
What I suggest is to tie corporate standings to introduced market penalties where corporations set at a negative rating by another corporation gets this calculated and added to their expenses. The better standing a victim corporation has towards the NPC corporation the harsher the market tolls will be on the undesirables.
In short pirates will have to pay a higher price for goods in an area in which they've made many enemies and would become dependant on the good will of corporations which they did not prey on but shared territory with, by them using their good standing and thus influence on the NPC to counterbalance the negative lobbying.

i really like the idea.... that would make the game more realistic.... that would in turn make clear to all what corps are "alied" to pirate organizations...

Cool idea, but I think they'd just use alts to buy and sell. As many with -5.0 standings do already.
Most of us have probably done trades with FE pirates and didn't know it.
It would probably end up as some kinda twisted badge of pride, like bounty is. Our corp is so mean the other corps have us at +90% price..

Brilliant idea really..
Would really be a good use of the standing system, and it would make some interesting things even in empire due to the location makeup of NPC corps.
If it also worked with player corp standing it would really be perfection at work.. then more economic alliances would be marked out, and more communication initiated I am sure!
Good thinking imo..

Edited by: Danton Marcellus on 23/01/2004 17:41:37 Pirates having no alliegances pay more for services and end up less rich and need stay pirates to support themselves, while pirates networking will be able to raise more funds and eventually due to their networking skills may or may not gravitate away from piracy to more legit fields of commerse, given the taste of diplomacy through interaction with others than their less visionary peers.
Thus this idea apart from adding more spice to being a pirate generates a possible exit for pirates, all in a much needed effort to curb their numbers and contain the menace.
The missuse of alts for main character gains is a problem yes, it should be addressed, at least by disallowing interaccount money & goods transactions. If an alt is a viable option to play 'cause he is his separate character why should he then be allowed seemingly senseless charity from a character with which he has no ties? If he indeed is associated with the main character let it show in the sense that the main characters actions bleed over in standing on the alt... Just off the top of my head there.

I guess it somewhat ties into the pirates mentality too as they would need to want to be held accountable for their piracy and not simply circumvent it using shadow corporation alts to ruin this attempt at deeper immersion and roleplay.
Lord Zap of M0o said he liked to roleplay back in the day so there is some hope even pirates would shed their most senseless killers who making their business suffer...
