Is it better to run missions and kill stuff and just turn-in as fast as you can in order to gain standing and get higher missions?
or
Kill stuff, loot, salvage, sell, etc.
The latter seems to take a lot more time, and I'm not sure it's actually worth it.
Just wanna hear some opinions.

Depends, can you handle higher lvl missions? if you can then I'd say just blow trough them and don't loot/salvage as lower lvl missions give crappy loot.
However unless you are able to do higher lvl missions solo, there is no point in rushing to get them.

Edited by: Durn Loze on 04/07/2007 01:10:35 You make the most money if you run the mission, loot what you can as you fight, then go back and grab a ship to loot the rest and salvage. You can do all with one ship but often having a salvage ship helps as its hard to combine both functions into one ship effectively. Plus the salvage ship can be faster and with bigger cargo.
You will find you make the largest portion of your income off these by salvage. Don't neglect it.
And always loot. Sometimes its all average but I received a 100 million implant off a level 3 once as loot from a named. I've also received a few 15 million items of loot in terms of lesser implants or arbalest missile launchers of non-named NPCs. You only need one great item of loot or salvage to make up for a few average missions worth of loot.

I make reasonable money (for a guy who sticks to Empire space) running 4-6 level 1-2 missions at a time in a cruiser, then going back to each before turning in the missions with a destroyer fitted with salvagers and tractor beams for teh phat lewts.
I can usually get everything done within one to two hours, enough time for the bonus. The important thing is to find a station with a lot of available agents in it-the star map's "My Agents" display is invaluable for this.
I don't know quite how my earnings would stack up to a top dog player, but I do OK (and the number of missions I do at once mean I get a Storyline mission every two or three runs.)

Good plan - but here's a hint to improve things:
Bookmark the locations - I've got a folder in people and places called "Wrecks". Make sure you bookmark each stage in a multi stage mission (usually after you've killed everything and before going through the next gate). Go back and turn in the mission. Return to your bookmarks before the wrecks de-spawn (1-2 hours) and do your salvaging then.
This has 3 benefits: 1) all of the crap is gone - asteroids, structures, etc. but the wrecks and cans remain 2) you can now use a MWD on your salvage ship because it's no longer deadspace. This speeds the process immensely. My salvager (a catalyst with 4 salvagers + 4 tractor beams + 2 cargo expanders) does 1KM per second with the MWD, making it a snap to travel between the groups of wrecks. This becomes more important if you've got wrecks spread everywhere like I do in Level 3s. Tractor everything within 20km and salvage it, then move on to the next group. 3) you can warp directly to the wrecks - no need to go through deadspace gates.
Each of these is a little time saver in itself - once added up you might get an extra mission or 2 in the same amount of time.

And - check out your social skills. Some of them give you better benefits quicker, that without them!

Hmmm, that sounds like an interesting approach. I'll have to try it out. Thanks!

Bear in mind that people can now scan you out and salvage your wrecks without any flagging, thus you can't shoot them to protect your salvage.
A corp mate once had a 2 week old alt in a vigil warp in on the remains of a level 4 mission and start salvaging his wrecks. Next time he tries it, we've got a surprise for him.

Not to forget - implants. There is a whole bunch of implants now, that achieve the same. They're all called "consul", and rather cheap, if you take the low end versions(better than nothing).

This isn't correct.
You can be scanned out in a deadspace anyway - the only advantage being that in a deadspace, the scanner has to come in through the deadspace gates. Without the deadspace he can warp right to you.
Regardless of whether it's deadspace or not - you never get flagged for salvaging someone's wreck, only if you take the loot (loot being different to salvage materials).
Cheers Falka

If you read what I quoted, the previous poster suggested reporting the mission in, then warping back and salvaging. I warned that this would open you up to people scanning down more (at least scanning you down more easily).
I also mentioned that you won't be able to shoot them as salvaging doesn't trigger flagging (underlined to clarify my point).
That doesn't stop us from using suicide ships to gank the frigate though, especially when 2 or 3 alloyed tritanium bars will more than cover the cost of the suicide ship.

Can you explain how people scan you out and find youre wrecks? I'm not at all familiar with that possibility.
