Just watched the old Eve trailer where the Caldari dude says he no longer wishes to play by the rules and becomes a lone pirate.
I was just wondering if in todays Eve there is any chance that this could still be done? Is it possible to make a living without ever mining a single piece of rock? Can you make a living out of pirating while your still in a frigate?
I know back at the beginning it was probably quite possible, but now I think to have any chance you need to join a pirate corp or be a carebear until you have a cruiser/BS. Opinions? ----- There is no truth, only human opinion... |

Lindor what the hell are you doing reviving this char...... get back into you know who
=)
Lord Guerdo Biomass Cartel I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ). |

You can make a profit out of pirating in a frigate.
However, i would say a small 3-4 man operation would prolly be the best.
1 kessie, 1-2 ecm frigs, 1 x bessie (for hauling the l00t)
Boom, you got the perfect indy killing fleet :)

No I dont think it is easy. If it was, it wouldn't be fare to other noob players who working hard to develop themselves. Known pirate corps are good in fighting, good in running, good in hiding etc, they have trained the right skills, have the right modules, and that needs time, money and efford. No, I dont like neither pirates nor their tactics, but I have to admit they are the "spice" of eve. I think ccp is trying to make a balance between pirates, bounty hunters, and legimate players and also give space to noobs until they decide what they want to be. Conclusion: if you can afford loosing ships dont pirate (while you are still new player) if you wasn't new player you wouldn't post that question

Edited by: CoolSprog on 22/01/2004 13:42:20 Lindor, it is possible, but if i were u i wouldent become like Miss Take, or Betty Boom. Why? Allow me to tell u there daily eve schedule:
1. They enter the FIX 2. Kill 1 or 2 indys 3. Run and hide when so much as a frigate enters to hunt them down 4. Log off in the middle of space
This is normally the case for about 3 to 4 hours.
5. Log back on, realise they are still blocked and proceed to log back off for ANOTHER 3 to 4 hours.
And that my friend is the 100% truth, so if u want to become a pirate, use your brain a bit unlike these rookies.
Oh and Miss Take has left the fix in her pod more times than my ship has left a station. -----

Oh my, i think someone has to get over themselves.
I have lost 2 cruisers in the Fix.
Running from a frigate? thats a joke,
Running from a cruiser? sometimes,
Running from a Battleship... of course, im in a cruiser.
And you sitting there for two sets of 3-4 hours, for a solo pirate in a cruiser... quite sad.
CoolSprog are you trying to make yourself look stupid?
Or are you just frustrated that you have never caught me?
And if i have left the fix more times in my pod than you have left a station, stop being a noob and get out more.

Edited by: CoolSprog on 22/01/2004 14:16:03 ouch strong words miss take, when i hear your in the fix i see that as a "no threat in the fix" and dont even bother to come down searching for u because i know youll run and log. Are u telling me u dont hide and log off for hours at a time? coz if u are your a liar. This thread is about being a lone pirate, i used you as an example of how not to pirate because, no offence but ur not very good at it. Pooti for example in m00, he runs blockades, kills more indys, and engages 1on1's with the same class of ship, u run if its a cruiser, frigate or a battleship. The only thing u engage are indys! Hes much more effective at it than u. Tell me is it fun for u running and hiding every 5 minutes for hours on end coz tbh that would bore me. Stop flaming any maybe give the guy who asked the question some useful information? -----

You must be very dense, as i quite clearly stated that i dont run from frigates before.
I always happy to take a cruiser 1 on 1, but if its 2 on 1 or more, and i dont fancy my chances, of course im not going to fight.
AS for battleships, same appiles, theres no gain in getting blown up every 5 minutes.
As for running blockades... do it all the time, but as you havent been witness to it then obvioulsy i never do it.
As for logging off, yes i do, as im quite happy to play cs or my other client. Then i log back on to see the same group of people sat there, which is highly amusing, it amazes me how long people will sit there. Oh and the fun part is, logging on playing for about an hour, earning a decent amount of money, then logging off. Whats your point?
To the original poster:
If your starting out solo pirating, the Kestral is a great starting ship, with 4 cruise missiles you cant go wrong, get yourself a webbfier and warp srcrambler and your set.
Learning to use the scanner is essential.
Wish you good luck

I have mined for 3 hours in my whole Eve Online experience and I have been pirating and making profit for many months. I made isk by selling goods on the trade channel. It is therefore possible to advance in the game without mining. A Corp 1 pirate I was meant to be, trim the sails and roam the sea |

lol the difference is, in 1.5 u were required to aim before u fired. Get 1.5 and youll see the difference belive me, its not as easy as 1.6, the beginners dont take down the experienced that easy! -----

Not really, unless you kill an indy loaded down with megacyte and morphite fleeing fountain.
or a noob frigate carrying 80-90 mill in rare minerals

Sad but true. So much spray and pray in 1.6 Although i love the famas. (famas = headshot machine) Shields are SOOOOOO ***.
Face it, if u played a while 1.6 is no different from 1.5. Use the awp, use the ak, use the mp5, use the usp, nough said.

Hey she is right 1.6 has better graphics and less buggy than 1.5 as i have played both. since updating to 1.6 i have found it to be far more stable when loading to join a game....
Plus there is the added bonus of day of defeat. that i play more than cs

be nice... the problem with piracy is that you have to carry a setup thatŠs very dedicated to what youŠre doing (i.e. indie stopping / killing), especially so when you go alone.
I see the problem more with the game mechanics... if you box someone in with a superior force, then they canŠt do much but either go afk or log off.
also, if indies start carrying some serious equipment (like smartbombs or guns, and yes, i agree that indies need to be upped in that respect) then you wouldnŠt have to be afraid of kestrels anymore. xxx Atea. |
