Seriously... Is it possible that anyone can actualy enjoy / be proud to fly the Moa and/or Eagle, aesthetically speaking? I would probably fly around in one if they werent so Fugly! But, alas, I have too much respect for my self to do such a thing.
FFS, its been described as "a giraffe swallowing a house"! The thing is easily the ugliest ship in Eve...
Now why am I posting? Well, there are a couple threads about the new upcomming graphics and ship models and what not, and what I want to do is get a list of ships that can use a re-work (they are updating the graphics anyways).
I'll start:
1) MOA / EAGLE !!!!!!!!!!
2) Dominix (is it a brown boxing glove or just a lump of poo?)
3) Prophecy (stretch it out a bit, it looks like a fat Pigeon!)
4) Slasher / minnie ceptors
5) Crucifier / Anathema
6) Breacher / Hound (it looks like a bit of scaffolding with an engine and a sail attached...)
7)...

tbh I think the models should stay the way they are.
Yes many ships looks like trash (especially minnie ones  ), but that's the way we know them now, for good and for worse.
Ship designs doesn't need to be shaped in any beautiful way in space, they don't need to be aerodynamic, or symmetric.
Some ships look good, some look bad. If they ever remove the trash/duct tape way of making minnie ships I will be sad, and if they make all ships pleasing to the eye the game will lose a bit of its charm.
I like fugly (as you said) ships just because it makes them stand out =)

Always rather liked the Moa design myself, though I prefer her evil twin, the Gila. I'm okay with a texture update, but thats as far as I'd like to see the updates go when it comes to the ships.

People have different tastes. I started with caldari and loved the blackbird and moa.
Then I discovered the beauty of minmatar.
Never liked any gallente or amarr ships. Megathron? yuck!

The moa is fugly with a capital F..
I decided to try it since its a ril boat and I had just gotten my caracel obliterated.. damn what a bad move.. its a decent ship.. which is to say it seriously sucks for its role and intended purpose...
But OMG.. forget a giraffe swallowing a house.. it looks more like a pile of steaming *insert graphic **** reference here* with a tape worm sticking out the top like a cobra.
If Caldari use birds and raptors to name their ships.. they should be majestic, birdlike and symmetrical... I dont give a **** if its in space and aerodynamics doesn't matter.. 80% of Caldari ships look like utter crap..
CCP should make a contest for new ship designs.. 1 for each race so 4 winners total.. the best ship design of each race gets their model implemented as a future ship type for players to fly.

Some people like the designs some people don't.
I will admit at first I didn't really like the dominx but it grows on you (perhaps like a wart)but still.
The ships are what they are we know them and recognize them.
IF you really can't stand the way it looks fly something else.

I got a list:
1. Osprey
2. Moa
3. Raven (A big osprey with random parts extended)
4. Blackbird
5. Heron (wtf are those? ears?)
6. Domi (why make such a good ships so ugly?)
7. AEON (damn that thing is ugly)
8. Prophecy (its not bad, but just a little longer would be nice)
9. Typhoon (either fill that hole or let me fly thru it)
10. Crucifier (the parascope thing needs to look less awkward)
All minnie ships need a revamp, but they need more random pieces strapped to them not less, if possible, give every minnie ship a random shape whne first unpacagked, that would be ideal, and an endless source of lulz.

Ive tought the same thing about the moa for some time, to me it looks like a chicken.. Would be nice to see new models in the update. The only reason I got a caracal instead of a moa is because of the horrible looks.

Thanatos needs to be semetrical (spelling?), same with the Aeon and some of the caldari ships.
The phoon needs to be finished.
The dominix could use some more defining features, looks too blobbish ATM.
Proph looks fine right now.
Minmatar ceptors look like flying chairs with wings or something to that extent. Needs fixing.
And is there a chance that we could finally see a connection of some form between POS'es and their modules?

I love the proph too. The reason it is on the list is not because it is ugly, but because it is so close to looking friggin' amazing that I just get upset by seeing it in its current form. I just think it would look alot meaner (and less chubby) if they stretched it out length-ways, from bow to stern... not too much tho. Maybe by 1.2x scale (where 1.0x is its current length)

Please, re-model the Raven, make it flatter, and longer side to side. Kind of like a horizontal Naglfar. A sort of jagged flaying wing missile platform ship, with a bunch of high-techish stuff.
Also, I don't care about symmetry, but those poky bits the raven has under its wing and the osprey has on the one side just look ridiculous.

I agree that the Moa is ugly as hell but I still like the design...
I've flown most ships in Eve and the two ships I have the most problem coping with is the Raven (just looks like it's tacked together during a lunch break from an upscaled Osprey and bits of a space station) and the Thrasher, looks like a mechanical dog...

I know atleast two ppl who tried EVE, and stoped playing, becouse the ships looks like "LEGO-gone-wrong". There are a few good looking ships though, like the Abaddon, Omen, Hyperion, Rokh, etc...
I dont know why they make ships look like the Moa, Blackbird, Raven, etc...? Asymmetry dosnt have to equal Ugly?

The real problem with the MOA's looks is how it's made:
1 large square box WTF?!? - 1 head, 1 ugly tailpipe, 1 very cool engine/shield generator (always imagined it as a engine/shield generator)
BTW Blackbird looks pretty cool to me, and even though raven isn't a pricewinner it's something able to live with... At least swap the hull between osprey and moa

The silhouette of the Moa is awesome in its basic design IMO. The 'head' upright, with small wings extending from the sides. A bit like a bird pulling its wings in to dive on top of a target. But the details are terrible, weird box shapes and assymmetrical. I'd make sure to keep the silhouette, but change the details to make it look good close up.

Well, they *preety much* do, I'm afraid.
At any rate, Moas really look terrible, but I don't fly caldari, so it doesn't bother me that much.
Slasher & the minnie interceptors look terrible. 
However, the Rifters and the minnie AFs look just great, so they sortof offset it (a minor tweak I'd do, i'd remove those solar panel thingies from the Jaguar, but really, for a minnie ship, it's too good looking).
And the breacher? I bought one, accidentaly. I ended up attacking a mothership in a attempt to get killed.

The main grip I have with Caldari ships is that a lot of them are asymmetrical just to be so case in point with the Ferox and the comorant (sp?) both would look great if the engine pod on the left side or whatever matched the rest of the ship at the moment it throws it off completely. I know with the Caldari it's form over function but....urgh. Makes me wish I was Amarr sometimes they're ships for the most part look awesome (the Crusader is pure sex).

The Moa has a certain charm about its shape. yeah. The Raven on the otherhand hurts my eyes and I refuse to fly it, even though it would probably allow me to do a faster job in certain areas. I can only hope the grafix update is going to see it given a jolly good makeover.

The Slasher (claw + stiletto) are cool. They are the only ships with a built-in brush to clear the debris off your viewscreen after a fight.
The Hyperion is pretty ugly, its a bit like a deformed iteron with extra thrusters.
Also, I still cant get my head around the revelations design. It should fly the other way around!

Look at the EVE online vid here the scorpian at '00:23' is the new design, that vid was made '2006-05-10' showing they have been workign on the ship designs for a while.

I don't have problem with the vast majority of space ships for Caldari, Minmatar and Amar. Most Gallente ships (starting with the Dominix) on the other hand look so extremely cheesy. With the exception of the Brutix, the Myrmidon, the Atron, the Maulus, all the capitals, and maybe a few others, Gallente ships look more like childrens' toys than combat space ships. What's with the flying fish (the Navitas) and the stupid face with the droopy eyes (the Celestis) and the flying shoe or whatever it is (the Dominix)? Seriously.

Moa model is distinctive and very Caldari-like. I would be disappointed to see it mutilated. It's even far more enticing looking than the other Caldari cruisers, so I don't really know why you don't find it appealing...
Dominix? How can you not like Dumbo the elephant with tail lights of a cadillac??? It's supposed to be very old Gallente design, and it emits that very well. Heck, it looked like an old ship the very first time I saw it in this game!
There were 4 BC models released at first, then 4 more, and Prophecy model is the nicest of them all. Only Brutix came close in the group of first 4 with the refreshing winds that each race had into their look'n feel of their ships. I'm wondering if your post if a bait, since you seem to be picking on the very finest ship models, instead of the worse ones....?
About the Minmatar ships, I can only say that those look exactly as Minmatar ships are supposed to - infact, they could be trashed a little more for more intence look'n feel
Anathema - now that's the first model I don't completely disagree with you. It doesn't seem like your average Amarr design. It looks like discolored Caldari vessel. If anything must be changed, perhaps this ship then...

Now why am I posting? Well, there are a couple threads about the new upcomming graphics and ship models and what not, and what I want to do is get a list of ships that can use a re-work (they are updating the graphics anyways).

Caldari ships look pretty awesome, quite frankly.
Now the Maller, on the other hand...seriously, I saved up my hard earned ISK to trade up from an Omen, flew it for half an hour, then couldn't stand it any more and sold it at a loss of 2 million ISK just because it was so gosh darn hideous.

First, let me separate the EVE ship models into two categories: the pre-Kali ones and the new ones, added in Kali.
I like all pre-Kali models, they all match the spirit of their respective races:
Amarr ships are works of divine inspiration, Caldari utilitarian ships where function precedes design and that lovel rusty gunmetal, Gallente liberal spirit where also the ugly and disfigured are allowed to fly and use guns and Minmatar ducktaped rusty buckets... In short, they're very well designed and in place.
However, the new battle{cruisers,ships} I saw coming in Kali had me wondering if the lead designer suffered some horrible mutilations or worse... The new ships are SO out of character... If anything should be looked at and adjusted, be it the newly added ships.

Most ships in eve are in dire need of a makeover, I swear the designers are random drunks plucked off the street and dumped in front of a computer.
Whoever had the idea 'lets be different from all other space games and make ugly ships instead' needs a short sharp kick upside the head.

My personal pet peeve ship: The Maller. It looks like someone chopped a truly elegant spaceship in half and tacked some nubby little wings on to the fore section.
Although I suppose if that's my biggest ship complaint, then I need to thank whatever electronic device I worship that I'm not Matari.

To fix this one, they just need to switch Slasher and Minmatar Shuttle models, and reskin the shuttle model a bit for the inties. I mean really, the Minmatar Shuttle has one of the sexiest models in the game imho, and it just screams 'combat ship' yet it is wasted on a damn shuttle.
To a lesser degree this is also true for the Mammoth, which also looks like it should be a combat ship, and would make a better BC model than the Cyclone imho.

Totally agree with you man, just one thing is the designer isn't a random drunk and he knows what to do. I think he was ordered to design ugliness and well.. he made it with success :)

tbh theres very few ship designs i really like, although the rifter variants are all pretty neat, but i do have to wonder how much of my subs is being paid to george lucas over the Hurricane (Minperial Star Destroyer)
After a year of absence i can really see the difference between the original ships and the new ones to be honest, and whilst some look interesting (the republic firetail looks like it might not be an eye sore) they also, as was mentioned earlier, dont look like they fit in with the original concepts. Using the same example, the Republic Firetail, whilst being a specialist ship, doesnt look like a minmatar design (i think it looks more like some kind of hybrid amarr/caldari design)

What are you talking about? Do you own a firetail? It's basically a huge engine with some steel wings welded on. It's about as Minmatar as it gets.
The problem is half of this is down to personal tastes. The things many people hate about Minmatar designs are generally the things Minmatar *love* about them. I like the Cyclone with it's random bits strapped onto a bunch of engines! And I like how the Slasher is just a few bits of steel bodged together. The sails make the Tempest what it is! I love virtually all the Minmatar ships. They're beaten only by Blood Raider ships for beauty (mmmm, Ashimmu).

I have to chime in here and agree with the poster above me; all the ship designs are great.
Every race has a story, and a sense of a racially specific design style. The asymmetries give the ships a sense of a far future design that has diverged from atmospheric design.
The designs are so far from the typical 'oh, its a insectoid race so they have spindly insectoid ships' is great. You can instantly see the caldari and their no nonsense approach to ships, or the gallente with their eyes toward elegance.
Oh, and I love the raven's design. I remember cruising around in my bantam and (accidentally!) simultaneous warping with one of the early ravens. The sense of power and might that ship gave off was awesome.
And the moa feels a lot like an aegis cruiser. Ugly and functional. A great design. (Admitedly, the scorpion is more like the aegis functionally).
