Edited by: Nikolai Reidar on 22/01/2004 07:58:48 Finally, with a little outside help, the Osmeden Alliance has acquired a foolproof instajump bookmark for the Luminaire gate in Orvolle, meaning that weak players trying to traverse the system need no longer worry about the c0w campers podding people.
I have only recently gotten the bookmark, and my CEO and Director have yet to evaluate ways to distribute this prize. I tried to sell copies of it on the open market (for a tidy price of 0.01 ISK :D) but currently the game does not accept bookmarks as commodities to sell. The most likely way to give it to the masses is to drop hundreds of them in the warning cans around the Orvolle stargate in Luminaire, which will probably be the way we go. For a direct trade, please contact me or S3VYN in-game.
Either way, we have foiled the pirates without needing to engage them militarily. With this bookmark (and look out for the Osmeden stargate in Orvolle bookmark, which I am currently engineering) traffic in and out of Orvolle is finally safe, and once enough people are using them, the pirates will no longer have an easy chain of prey to stalk.
Your move, c0w

I suggest you think of a better way of distributing that bookmark. All a pirate needs to do is find one of the cans with it in and take it, maybe putting a password on the can will help?

ROFLMFAO!!!!!!!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but do you really think because you have 1 instajump bookmark of a gate that the area is now free of pirating?
LOLOLOLOLOL man thats too funny
Lord Guerdo Biomass Cartel I mean c'mon, just think about it. What would make more sense then the 3 most hated alliances teaming up to lay waste to the people they all hate anyways? CA is already allied with PA, and TPS lies between the two alliances. Natural allies to be sure. But it's not just that, all but PA (and even some of them) have adopted a "stfu and die, or come and fight us, we don't give a **** what you think or do" philosophy, as well as a PvP Kill everyone not friend kind of mentality. These are the people in eve that kill or convert, the ones dedicated to the death of others, because history, circumstance, and the rest of eve have driven then to do so (except TPS, who are just cool ass pirates ). |

Uh...OK, smart man. The point is that we can go through the system without getting podded at the stargates. We haven't been able to set up a good bookmark until recently because of camping. Now we do, and whether or now c0w remains in the system doesn't matter, because they won't be able to pod n00bs at the gate.

And this is why we should have had warp disruptors in the game by now.
they're SUPPOSED to be able to camp that gate and gank all the players coming through...

I think we all know, that killing rats camping a gate a 60k, then warping to a safe spot as soon as more than 1 person appears in local is very hard my friend.
Iv got a few BM for rats camping spots, but they tend to change position alot, so catching them is rather hard.

Edited by: Heine Shaver on 22/01/2004 14:10:18 Guy its not that special to have a bookmark. Giving it to noobs is a good idea though. But never mention corp names, they get off on you talking to and about them. People grief to have people swear at them but if you say "thanks it was gonna take me 30 minutes to get home but you just cost me the equivalent of 15 minutes of work, Thanks Again"
By the way the pirates have about 10 bookmarks to that gate. One at 5:00 20k one at 12:00 20k, 2:00 80k, 12:00 80k. Any pirate is laughing right now, to be successful it's all about having bookmarks why do you think they never take losses. They jump a few xxxkm away to recover cap and sheilds then immediatly jump back in and hope the screen loads quickly. One guy got tagged in fountain the other day cause he was dumb and didn't jump to a safe spot then the people who tagged him got owned because they didn't jump to a safe spot.

That's the name of the game isn't it? Pirates camp a system and pod people until enough people get ****ed off with it and find a solution. Income/fun from camping that system drops off so the pirates move on. Some people are happy for a while cos that system's clear while other people get ****ed off cos a different system becomes dangerous.
It's so perfect it's almost as if this kind of thing was intended to be a part of the game. Who'd have thought it? :P

Doesn't matter how many BMs they have. All we need is one, about 1K away from the gate. You jump in, then you can immediately warp out of system before they can get a target lock.
This isn't about engagement, trolls, this is about responding to your tactics. That's what this game is all about, responding to the actions of others. Laugh now, I don't care, but we just won a critical battle, and we didn't have to fire a shot.
And I don't care if they move to another 0.4 system, Orvolle is what counts. Here's what it looks like:
Unregulated Space-----Osmeden (HQ)----Orvolle---Luminaire/Empire Space
Gate griefers are blocking off our only access to Empire space, but even worse, a lot of n00b agent missions require passage through Orvolle anyway. These griefers know this, and that's why they're staying there.
Now some other pirates, like Druff und Weg (even m0o, I guess), employ the same tactics, but they remain in Oulley and beyond, where few newer players ever go. I admit that myself and many other people in my corp have been podded by them, but that's legitimate: if I'm ******* around in a 0.2 system off the beaten path, I should note that really powerful pirates (human or not) can do what they want. And I'm probably not there unless I'm really adventurous/experienced.
However, c0w pods people in frigates, many of them Velators, in a part of space that's a main thoroughfare for rookies. I'd call that an exploit, but that's being a crybaby. A healthier approach is to exploit the game in our own way. Yeah, you probably will rack up more pods in the near future, but at least now you'll never catch me

In response to someone else and since N.A.C is the official representative of OSAL (The Osmeden Alliance)...
We have absolutely zero interest in "defeating" pirating. It's not what we do. We do business and griefers (not legitimate pirates) were disrupting the flow of business. This is a solution. OSAL has NO goal of taking, controlling or otheriwise politically influencing space. Our goal is to ensure new players are kept from being griefed and those involved with OSAL are properly taken care of. Basically, we're friends playing a game together. As a large group we're more likely to have (non-griefed) fun than in our smaller corporation segments.
For a history lesson, OSAL DID assemble a group initially to gauge the strength of the pirates gate camping in Orvolle. We gauged their strength to be very minimal and decided a better approach was avoidance rather than wasting time fighting over their ideals. Basically, they were unresponsive to force and hid in stations taunting from their safe havens. Although the pirates in the surrounding systems claim to be good with combat it appeared that they were better at hiding. So we have changed our strategies to provide safe transport of materials through our sister systems.
We will continue to distribute as many fair methods as we can find to anyone willing to use them to escape combat in Orvolle. We will also encourage any honorably intentioned combat missions by those inclined to such things. I mark this as progress and more of it will be seen soon.

Tell that to the new players who have level 1 agents who send them through there. A Velator pilot who wondered THROUGH the wrong area. Then boom, they lose clone, ship AND agent all because someone felt the need for jollies.
Simple, maybe, but the flaw isn't with players it is with the odd security ratings surrounding the area. All WE can do is hope to save some people some money and time, especially considering the majority of them seem to feel like quitting after their first ship/agent/clone loss. Can't say that I blame them since to them it looks like a flawed game. That's what WE are trying to avoid. ------------------------------------- // The views expressed by this poster are not the views of the poster's corporation, alliance, planet or television network... but they should be. |

Had to check out this gate from morbid curiosity. So I warped in to the system in that powerhouse of a ship, TEH REAPER.
There was one guy camping the gate, in...a Velator. Dude, way to go. What an omnipotent presence that was.
So I self-destructed my ship out of sympathy; I'd also forgotten to fit any weapons, and smack talking people to death in local just isn't my bag baby (olol)
