I couldn't find a decent "build" or "outfitting" guide to the Gallente Catalyst. I picked one up after I foolishly trained up cruisers and realized I couldn't enter certain deadspace complexes.
Anyone want to hand out a noob fitting guide to the Catalyst? I'm running 6 125mm Carbide Rails, 1MN AB, Statis Web, 100mm Nanofiber plate, Adaptive Nano Plating and a Small Armor Repairer I right now. Just wanting to try it out.
Thanks, Mos Superum

for missions, seems like a good fit, try a magnetic field stab in place of playing, if u have the 1 pg left try http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=333309 http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=311474 Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed dimensions of 400x120 pixels and filesize of 24000 bytes -Forum Moderator ([email protected]) |

This is just my .02 isk, so don't quote me...
I'm assuming you need a fit for mission running/ratting. Only things I would change: Remove the web, as your tracking should be decent enough with the small rails for most anything, especially if you're using it as a "sniper" setup and keeping everything chasing you with the AB on...right?
Take off the Adaptive Nano Plating and slap on a Damage Control I. I can't tell you how many times I barely got out of a tight situation only because of that 50% resist to hull points that the DC gives you. Otherwise, lookup what kind of rats you're against and fit a specific hardener instead of an "omni tank".
Also, look into the "Weapon Upgrades" skill and train it up a few notches to see if you can't fit 2 more rails on there. Shouldn't be too hard without the web and changing out the Adaptive Nano with a DC. Would be a shame to waste those 2 high slots.

I went through those Catalyst fitting threads. I totally understand why they refer to destroyers as "newb money pits" -- so easily destroyed if not properly fitted.
I added a Power Diagnostic Unit I to the ship, kept the adaptive nano plating, and am able to fit on another 2 125mm Carbide Railguns now.

Once you get your Engineering and Electronics skills trained high enough, you shouldn't need the PDU to fit 8 125mm rails. What ammo are you using? With 8 guns, you don't need Antimatter, and it reduces your range too much. I like Iridium myself.
Later on, the Catalyst makes an excellent salvage vehicle. Swap the rails for 4 Salvager I's and 4 Small Tractor Beam I's and go clean up the wrecks after your missions are over.

I'm a noob too and tried a few setups. This one works for me and keeps it interesting, though I have to manage modules and energy well to win. It involves getting really close so I get hit a lot and have to sheild boost properly and in "hard" encounters, sometimes it takes a few fleeing sessions with repairing.
4 Ion Blasters with Antimatter 2 Smart Bombs 2 nosarofaratuthingamajigs 1 Sheild booster 1 afterburner 3 Overdrive Fuel Injectors.
I like this b/c it keeps the wrecks close together.
Another variation I was using was to replace the smart bombs with neutron blasters (maybe some of the ion ones too if enough pwr/cpu) in favor of single target damage. This also lets the drone bay be useful as I didn't have to worry about blowing it up (which I did like 5 times before I figured out why it was dying so fast)
But I liked the explosions and under certain manuvers it can take out a couple of targets at once...especially weak drones so it's pretty cool graphics.

I'm still Engineering III and Electronics III -- need to keep training those, yes.

Like hell you don't... Even with decent skills, the Catalyst can run dry pretty quick while salvaging if you have a large group of wrecks close together where you're constantly salvaging (like Gone Beserk). And if you have a MWD to zip between distant wrecks while trailing others and salvaging... Bone dry.

Not all destroyers are the same. My Coruscant has to have it too.

Well -- I ditched 1 of the 125mm rails after getting dropped into structure with the last build I had. My friend and I went into a Pith Deadspace Depot and decided to try the 3rd (???) room with the Caracal(s) and other cruisers.
We still couldn't hang in there after I changed to this setup:
HIGH - (7) 125mm Carbide Rails (Iridium or Lead)
MED - 1MN AB - Cap Recharge I
LOW - Damage Control I (or it may have been PDU I) - 100mm Nanofiber Armor - Small Armor Repairer I
I guess you guys are right -- it's hard to noob this ship. You just have to know how to equip it properly and have the gunnery skills to do it. It didn't help that my buddy was in a Kestrel. He could whack 'em at long range, but that 3rd room on the deadspace complex -- you get thrown WELL within the range of the Caracal and the other ship that has the jammers.

Edited by: Tkar vonBiggendorf on 06/07/2007 22:18:05 The Destroyer is an anti-frigate ship. It will be chewed alive by cruisers (such as the Caracal). Even with skills, I wouldn't fly a destroyer into that fight. Get yourself into a cruiser for that one.
