I'm leaning this way as well.
Even in the pic from the article you can see it wasn't every question, they were mixed in, and it's not something hand written or typed up and photocopied that the teacher created, it's obviously some kind of work book or work sheet.
The way we squeeze our budget and ignore our trade deficit it's probably from some other country and written by people who only know the basic outline of American history and don't recognize the meaning of the word slave vs worker or farm hand. |

A slave can be any human being and I recent your inferred racism.
When society crumbles, children will need to know how to count slaves because I know that my tribe, for one, will have slaves of plenty. Most all of the people reading this thread will most likely be made slave due to their apparent naivety in fact. |

I might agree, BUT...

which leads me to believe that the teachers did purposely put that in, and was created by the teachers. |

One of the children answered "because I don't like the brown color." That seems pretty obvious, you know that the majority of American black children choose white dolls (google it, too lazy)? This isn't racist because it has nothing to do with race. It has to do with the color brown. It is the same color as poop and mud, it is a dirty color. White is the color of snow and purity and pretty much the opposite. It was unfortunate that god chose to also give black people a specific smell  . But that's not racist either, it's a question of preferred colors and smells. Would you really like to watch brown snow? Huh? Or catch brown snow in your hand? Perverts? |

A black person is just a person with darker skin colors, just as I am a white person with lighter skin colors. I see no reason to use any 'politically correct' words for that. It is what it is.
And if I was a black dude from say Asia, I would not be happy to be called African American since I would be neither :P
Too me this oversensitiveness seems to be pushing the issue of racism the wrong way. Maybe it is just me. ;) |

Derp, only skin colour? What about different shape of skull, wider nose, longer arms, narrower hips, higher testosterone levels? I am not even talking about mentality and IQ, to prevent some rage in this thread. Races are very different.

Yes, and? Still human. I am different form other "whites" as well. Skin color just happens to be easily visible, the internal genetic makeup can be a mix of anything. |

Pitiful.
I have a seven-year-old son who we're hoping to home school next year. The school he's at now has been quite good, but the next level up is notorious for cheating teachers and petty squabbles over test scores. I saw it first hand when I worked for the schools' IT department.
He's on a fourth grade reading level, can explain science principles my wife's sixth grade students haven't grasped, and plays the violin reasonably well for someone who barely practices. Unfortunately the schools didn't have much to do with most of that. |
