Edited by: Zuraster on 06/07/2007 00:28:39 Hello, I am new to the world of EVE-Online. I have a question regarding a quest that I have. It says that to complete the quest I need a Perpetual Motion Unit II. I have searched the market and searched for blueprints for one of these units and have been unable to find them. Could someone please tell me how to acquire one. It would be much appreciated.
Thank You All, Zuraster

This mission is a hard one. I've never done it but about 50 people a day have a problem with it. It requires you to 'Invent' from a blueprint you get given. It's all very confusing and I have no idea how much the mission journal tells you. Sorry I can't help more but I've never done it. However I can tell you it's a useless item outside the mission and won't be on the market.
Good luck!

Edited by: Zuraster on 06/07/2007 01:20:50 Ok I fully understand the quest now.
Balancing the Books (10 of 10)
Mission briefing All right, time for our little project. You've proven skillful at business, but now I want to test your capability for pure science. The blueprint (Perpetual Motion Unit I), data cores, and data interface that I gave you earlier can be used for converting a particular item (Perpetual Motion Unit I) into a new one that's far more advanced (Perpetual Motion Unit II). Do this for me, give me the new item, and you will be rewarded not only with what I can give you, but with experience that'll come in handy time and time again once you begin your career.
If you've forgotten the ways of invention, just open your Tutorials interface and go through the set on Science & Industry. They'll show you the basics, but keep in mind that you're inventing now, not manufacturing ― so once you've opened the manufacturing screen, remember to select "Invention" from the Activity drop-down menu. Once the job finishes, simply open up the Science & Industry screen again, press the Deliver button, and the item will be in your hangar. When you have the new blueprint, manufacture for me one unit of Perpetual Motion Unit II and bring me it.

You'll need to fiddle with 'Filters' and find a close by invention lab. It's the same place you build stuff but a different type of lab. Keep looking in the Science and Industry area. I know you can look at every lab in the region and there is about 50 or so per region. Keep trying, you're almost there!
Good luck.

How is the mission hard exactly?
You have to invent an item that you will always have sucess if you try invention on it. You clearly have not done the mission, so how can you even say its hard, most people do it within the 5 minutes it takes to invent the item.

It is EXTREMELY hard because it requires people to read the instructions. For some reason many people seem to get stuck with that. Try spending a day in the Rookie Help channel and see how many people ask where you buy Villard Wheels.
Thank goodness CCP made the T1 BPC require a non-existant item, otherwise most people would probably fail the mission.

I did this mission the other day with an alt. It wasn't really hard, but I can see how it can be confusing if you're a skim-reader. The only problem I had with it was trying to find an installation to do the invention at as I didn't understand the Science and Industry interface yet.

I'm running through all this on a new character, and I'm on 10 of 10, and this mission is just making me REALLY mad. I have everything I'm supposed to have, I'm in a place where I can invent, and the darn thing freezes on "Calculating Quote"...several times already!!!! This is so INFURIATING. I really hate this.

That happens when the blueprint is located in the wrong hangar / location when doing it in POSes and stuff, I couldn't tell you if it behaves in the same way when doing it at a NPC station. Try placing everything in the hangar, make sure the filters are set to "station" and not solarsystem, and that you actually are at that station wich has the invention slots.

I heard that if you don't have the skill to invent at remote stations or something like that, trying to do it can freeze the game. You need to move the BP and items to the station where the invention slot is located for it to work. It's a bit silly, it really should just give an error instead, but you know, it's EVE. EVE is made by CCP. CCP like beer

Well one would think people would know they can/cannot do remote research or not.
I don't disagree its only recently started to do that, around the time I started to play, so Reveltations 1.4

I tried to invent it, but nothing came of the effort. I had all the components and went through the process, but now have nothing to show for it. Is there any way to get the components again?

Don't forget to go back to the Science and Industry screen and deliver your completed jobs.

One of the 2 datacores is missing from my inventory. And I can't find it in Markets. So 10 of 10 won't get done.
Also, reading this thread, gives me the impression people aren't very helpful. Not one post that briefly describes the problem '50 people a day' are experiencing with this unfriendly end to a quest series.

"Missing" how? If you trashed it, intentionally or otherwise, then yup you're probably screwed.
If you have stuff scattered around, have you tried a search on your Assets to work out where it is?
If it really has just "vanished" you could try a petition to see if a GM can restart the earlier mission and will take pity on you.
A metagaming alternative is to start an alt, have them run the mission arc and pass your main the datacore ..... and hope that doesn't count as an exploit

You're not supposed to be stuck in rookie missions, they're just not explained well for some points. You should petition under the agent & missions category, GMs should be kind enough not to let newbies screw their standings and get negative gameplay experience by failing rookie missions! Just write nice and be nice with them! -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! The Vexor Navy Issue is much more fun than the Myrmidon !

a) the replyes in this thread seem helpful enough;
b) there is even a charachter named Villard Wheel by a good solul build especially to reply to this kind of question
c) if you search forum with enough patience you will find lots of thread with the same replyes, the limit is the search function of this forum and people posting ahain instead of serching, so burying the different threads
d) same problem with the rookie channel, it is almost impossible to type a complex reply, like to one requested by this problem, as it will be broken in several section mixed by other question/answers, because of the thext limit.
Suggestion: when you have a complex question requiring a step by step reply about what to do, ask in the Corporation channel, generally there is someone willing to help you and the channel is less busy.
