Does anybody does that? Any results? Experience to share?
I am looking into that for about 2 weeks now, trying to figure how to put those grav sites in use.
Industrial, holding a barge, exploration frig and T2 fitted Rifter to kill those drone BS that guard the sites... Some Warp Stabs - and go wander around unpopulated low-sec areas, praying and probing, hmm?
I dont expect it to be profitable, but might be fun, whaddaya say?

A friend and I did a site once, mined it with 2x barges, my alt in a drake and his alt hauling. Never had to warp the barges out.
Just watch your scanner and check for probes, if you see any, bounce.

Busted a mining op at one of these sites in .4. Crok ftw.

Damn right, it isn't profitable ^^
Best you get in low sec is Crokite (found that once), more often Dark Ochre and Gneiss. You might just as well mine Scordite in high sec with today's prices - if you can find any, that is.
Are there large Veldspar/Scordite exploration sites? I haven't found any yet, but one can dream... ______________ Join the Family |

Well, if you have a nice enough field you can get a LOT of zyd out of it. Empire standards, anyway. And zyd's made a nice recovery since the 1200ppu days of weeks ago.
Scordite is still safer and possibly more profitable, but definitely more boring. It really depends on your area--some lowsec is a deathtrap, some is fairly quiet aside from roaming gangs.

First, you cant find anything lower than omber in hidden belts.
Second, all the belts i've found had 15-20 kk total value in minerals with 96-100% refining. So mining Scordite is definitely more profitable, especiallu cuz you'll need tanked (hence less efficient) barge or good defence to mine in lo-belts.
But is so much more fun that scordite crunching :)

I've found a Gneiss belt in 0.4 space; t'was Amoderia if I recall correctly.

In low sec exploration sites? Yes you can....as mentioned above they go all the way to crok. I've been told about ark/bistot belts in low-sec though I've never heard that confirmed.

I said LOWER than Omber. Meaning DOWN the ore chart. So no Veld or Scordite o Pyrox or Plag. And yes, you're right, I did find Ochre, Spodumain and Crokite in hidden belts in 0.4 systems.

I have seen large Dark Ochre/Gneiss fields I estimated at roughly 500M if memory serves me right... 80 or so jet cans (after counting the roids and taking a good asteroid scanner sample). Of course it will take you ages to mine them out if you're alone.
Good to know there are no lower than Omber sites... they should be introduced though, with the mad demand for low end minerals and the chronic absence of roids from empire belts. ______________ Join the Family |

The new encounter sites seem to at times have significant amount of rock in them. I've not really paid attention closely to them but I'm pretty sure there has been Omber in some of them (nothing better though) and certainly some large veld/scord/plag roids.
Mining there is certainly safer than mining in the standard belts (but be aware that normal belt rats will spawn there if you hang around long enough
True exploration sites are definitely worth mining in my opinion. Pulled 20k units of Zydrine and 4k units of Megacyte from a single site in 0.3 space.
Oh, and good luck killing a drone BS with a rifter, those things have an insane armour rep rate on them (not saying it's impossible but it will take some time)

Well, cant say its too much. How much Scordite would you mine in the same timespan? But again, if its not best in isk/time sense, its definitely good isk/fun thing :)

Well, you'll be surprised, but luck is mine with BS :) It isnt too fast, but isnt outrageously long either. The problem is those "Strain..." class drones - they have 75% resists and shield boosting - didn't have enough DPS to push it down, had to bring in Rupture. MB some more scary drone BS wouldnt fall to Rifter, but those Domi-like ones popped pretty good.
I was really surprized how efficient a T2-gunned Rifter is in this, generally. I'd switch to Wolf to increase DPS, but I want to keep my low-sec exploratin/mining gear cheap, and i repackage those ships often (except hauler), so no insurance, so Wolf is not a good choice. And bigger stuff doesnt fit into hauler with other gear :)
