This is probably a dumb question, but is there an actual name for the Amarrian religion? Pretty much every thing else about the Amarrian religion is out there and readily accessable, but as far as an actual name I don't remember coming across anything; and "The Amarrian Religion" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue . ----------------------------- Naturally my views are my own as I'm not my alliance's spokesman, ect.

I don't think I've ever seen one. Maybe they don't need a name. Everyone know what you are talking about when you mention it. ---

Edited by: Mithfindel on 08/07/2007 07:51:57 While I cannot back this up on any prime fiction source, I have this strange tingling hunch that the word "Amarr" can also be used to descript the religion.
Though it just adds to the confusion, as Amarr could thus mean: - Continent (Amarr, on Amarr Prime - a bit far fetched, though) - Planet (Amarr Prime) - Empire (Amarr Empire) - People of the Empire (Amarr subjects) - Bloodline (True Amarr) - Believers (of the Amarr religion) - Religion (Amarr monotheism)
In a way, I find that the religion is what unifies the peoples of the Empire. Otherwise, they're a bit like ancient Persian empire, but they're not that much tied together by plain military might as they're controlled by the religion. If you don't believe in Amarr God, you are not really Amarr - a bit like the Jewish people, they're the chosen people, and it'd implied that if you're a Jew, you're also Judaist by religion?
(Edit: Added the last sentence.)

Amarr is the religion.
The closest real analogy is the phenomenon of pre-reformation Christendom. A tight territorial region dominated by its religion to the point that the region gets called by said religion. Its only after the church splits and well into the enlightenment that Europe gets regularly called Europe rather than Christendom. The real point here, is that if someone went back and asked an average peasant what he was, he would be far less likely to say "I am an Englishman" than he would say "I am a Christian."
The Amarrians were reduced to one continent on a backwater planet,it was those people who are the "true" amarr, because they were the ones who did not have to be converted. So they become both a race and religion, while those conquered, who would probably still answer "Amarrian" as their main identity, become a lesser race who did have to be converted. This produces the race distinction Amarr, as there suddenly are people who are Amarrian faith wise, but not of the original bloodlines.
Whether the name Amarr comes from the first continent, or vice versa is probably impossible to tell.
As they expanded they renamed the planet Athra Amarr Prime, and then spread the Amarrian Empire as far as they could.

Perhaps we should "ism" the name - Amarrism.
I like it. All who follow the Amarr religion are Amarrists. ____________________________________ Caldari by birth, Minmatar by citizenship.

hmm, instead of Amarrism, what about Amanast? Its just a coalescence of a load of Amarrian words that descride them. Therefore believers would be Amanists.

For those who accept that god exists the universe devides into two simple camps Believers and Heathens.
Don't think this helps come up with a name but explains perhaps why there isn't a name. Giving it a name implies its one faith among many. Anyone who follows the faith believes it is the only faith.
