As if one big test last Sunday on Singularity wasn't enough, we'll have another testing event this Tuesday. The setup will be the same, you should all gather in FD-MLJ on the Singularity server and join the in game channel 'starbaseattack'. We encourage you to use Dreadnaughts and Carriers, since we are attacking a Starbase. And of course you should have your ships set up and everything fitted before 11.00 GMT since the event will start then and take about one hour.
This is being run to compare performance between Revelations 2.01 and the upcoming Revelations 2.1 (with Python 2.5 runtime). This time we'll be running the exact same code as Tranquility to see if there's any difference in performance between this stress test and the previous stress test.
If you have any questions regarding the event, please post them in this thread.

How did the last test go from CCP¦s point of view?
And I very much hope that the rampaging desynch issue is being investigated too? Not just if yet another codechange works.

Yeah, it would be nice to get some Feedback from CCP, after the second event took place, to let us know, which test (and therefor code) was smoother.

See the link in my last post.
The desync issue is being investigated, though I'm not so sure this test has anything to do with it. You can help out in this thread.

Yes of course, we don't require you to fly capital ships, we just encourage it if you can fly them.

I believe Zulupark will post some sort of information on how the test went.

Well, just so we're clear, this was what happened:
I logged in 10 minutes early for the test, joined the appropriate channel and asked for gang. A while later CCP Zulupark said he stopped doing invites for now, so I decided to wait. He later lost connection and needed gang himself, which was quite funny (and almost made it worth the 45 minutes of boredom). A while later others who got gang relayed the info that the test was in progress and they would not be doing any more invites. At this point I logged, ****ed off at CCP once again.
But even though he was lagging and stressed, would a simple: "We have all the people we need in gang. If you can stick around and do stuff in FD-M you'd be helping out, though." be too much to ask for? It would have turned an entirely unpleasant experience into something nice. Might even have lead to some nice battles...

We'll keep that in mind for future events, like the one tomorrow.

Now I know why I play this game, same as why I prefer 3rd restroom stall at work:
On the Left wall it says Ping, on the right wall it says Pong.
I'll try to get there 'before 11:00 GMT' this time - as that's when it's actually too late.

I would really like to participate in one of these big tests, but unfortunately they have both been scheduled at 5 AM local. As much as I want to help, there is almost no way I can be on that early. Maybe your next big test can be scheduled later in the day so some of us on the other side of the planet can take part.

I believe test such as this will take place at the time that suits the QA team best, and it seems like they are having them at Tranquility downtime to get as many people as possible. If it would suit them to have a test later in the day I'm sure they'll have it, but I don't think they'll schedule tests in different times because of timezones.

run logserver and get me a logfile please. people are complaining about these desync issues, but i've not been able to reproduce this and no one has helped by getting me a logfile of the event. the sooner we get a nice logfile, the sooner we can hopefully find the issue.

Well, easiest way to obtain what you need Sharkbait, would be to join in on the test tomorrow. Have a full fleet shoot the POS, and let the rest of the people jump in and out system and dock/undock. If anything happens, you'll have your logfile right away. ---------- I made a bet for 100M and a faction fitted Raven that I wouldn't get any dev/admin change to my signature even when I specifically ask not to. So please, think of my poor wallet! |

If you are on a trial then your account doesn't exist on the test server and therefore cannot participate.

This is rather tricky, a number of goons at least have been running logserver. The problem is its a bit of ram hog. It eats up about 500mg of ram within 15 mins of running from my observation. I personally only have a 1 gig stick. The effect is with the additional client lag (I'm already running with tags, effects off. You have too in large fleet battles even with a half decent machine), any added server lag just causes the game to be totally unplayable. I was looking at 1 frame every 30 seconds. You cant tell if your being de synced or not at this point. There has been a call for goons to get these logs generated however, so hopefully you'll get your data soon.
Also let me be more specific with 'session changes' and give you an example. This isn't just gate session changes. This also includes large numbers warping in to an already crowded battlefield. Case in point ~200+ warp to about 100 people attacking POS modules, this morning around 6GMT. The module lag was around 30 seconds to a minute for me and several minutes for others. The original 100 on the POS were relatively lag free before the warp in. After there were large reports of total de syncs. I warped away to a safe spot and found myself with a mixture of long module delay and nothing loading as well as the capacitor twitching and my ship rotating on the spot for no reason. Re logging greeted me with the old black loading screen. It took about 30 minutes before I got in again.
These kind of things happen almost every large fight. Im surprised you havent been able to repeat this.

We run the logserver all day long and none of us have ever had this memory issue with it that you're talking about.
You can try opening the tools menu and clicking the 'Server Mode (100,000)' option. That way it auto-saves the logs every one hundred thousand lines and reduces the resources the LogServer.exe takes.
If you get a logfile with this issue in it PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE create a bugreport, attach the logfile and put 'Desync issue:xx' in the subject line.
