My Minmatar alt regularly encounters Slaves in the wrecks of destroyed Amarr ships. Now being Minmatar it doesn't do me any good. They are illegal in my space so I can't savely transport them.
I would like to suggest an option to convert "Slaves" to "Freed Slaves". This might even give you a small standing bonus to some Minmatar factions. Obviously such a change would also require the opposite to be possible: Enslaving "Homeless", "Refugees" and other human passengers...

Could you enslave freed slaves? I can imagine a world where a Minmatar dweller and an Amarr dweller trade the same 500 folks back and forth, freeing and re-enslaving them to grind faction standings for jump clones and high-sec POSes.

Heh. I don't think it would REQUIRE the reverse option. One could argue that if you sold them to the wrong people it would happen anyway.
Granted that's part of the problem, in theory if you're 'selling' them at all that makes them slaves, regardless of the title. You could make an argument that you're just transporting them and getting paid for it, but the fact that you pick where they go makes that a bit harder.
Slaves being illegal though, there probably does need to be another option besides leaving them in space to die or 'trash it', just for the roleplayers if nothing else.
You could make an argument that a proper Minmatar RPer wouldn't ever leave slaves floating in a can, they'd pick them up and get them freed. Which is something the Gallente and the Minmatar at least wouldn't have a problem with. Right now there's no way to do this, having 'slaves' in your hold makes you a slaver. You could argue that letting them get confiscated kinda constitutes freeing them, but the idea that you'd have to pay a fine and take a sec status hit to do it is fairly absurd and unrealistic.
Granted the faction bonuses/penalties for enslaving/freeing them would cause issues and be fairly exploitable.
I'd suggest some way to 'flag' slaves that states you're intending to free them, which removes the illegality problem. Also add slave buy orders to some of the anti-slavery actions, possibly for less than the Amarr factions would buy them for presently(they reward you for bringing them, and then turn around and free them. Could be represented without many changes by them buying slaves and selling freed slaves, or something.) To prevent this flag being exploited for slave transport through space where it's illegal, to sell them for higher prices to the Amarr(where they're not freed), you could make it so you take a significant sec status and anti-slavery faction status hit if you sell flagged slaves to a pro-slavery faction. (could be explained by saying that part of 'flagging' them means registering them with the anti-slavery types, so they can track them and make sure they aren't sold illegally). And to prevent 'on again off again' flagging, make the flag permanent. Once flagged they can't be unflagged. Ever.
Would fix a real conundrum for the RPers, and allow people to make SOME money off them without breaking the law, or their RP 'ethics'.
You could also do similar things with some of the other illegal items. IE Selling drugs at lower rates to CONCORD to have them destroyed. So long as the price you get for the flagged, 'legal' sale is lower than you could get for the 'illegal' sales, and flagged items being sold illegally results in significant penalties... you could somewhat expand the RP and moneymaking options without making it significantly exploitable.

just make one of the LP store offers require 1 unit of *whatever*, and it gives you cash and/or standing to whoever.
trade in people to amarr for cash + small standing, or trade in slaves to minmatar for small cash + standing (if ya catch my drift)

It would be nice if you could turn people in at an agent and gain some LP and/or standing. Perhaps for a small fee, for conversions maybe.

Remove the illegal tag in minmatar space. Set up an NPC corp with a background story of buying slaves to free and educate them, give them stations and let them put up buy orders on the market. And sell orders for exotic dancers, janitors, scientist, etc.

sure you could, but you would still need to travel and actually have the faction missions available (right now you just buy them instead).
and you should only be able to inslave freed slaves in amarr regions ___________________________________________ Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded |

Hello all,
I had an idea a while back where we could convert the "human trade goods". This would make a lot more sense for RP'ers of this game.
For instance, it takes docking in a facility with a Rehabilitation Clinic, then it takes X hours and Y ISK to convert this slave to a freed slave, to a tourist, to a janitor, etc. The chain should be apparent.
Then, if they gave humans a purpose (such as having them on your POS to augment certain things), we could work to this. I'm thinking something like a Scientist cuts 1% research time (up to 10%) at the Research Lab, or a Pilot increases the guns' damage by 1% per (up to 10%)....
I think this would open doors for another occupation in this game, as well as add to the atmosphere. What do you guys think?

I think tradegoods should remain inert (not affecting any capabilities) for the time being.
I think the easiest way would be to just make the conversion from "Slaves" and "Elite Slaves" to "Freed Slaves" possible and have appropriate corporations buy them. You could have some amarr corporations buy "Homeless" or "Tourists" under the RP-Story that they will enslave them thereby selling slaves to the market...
This way you don't have to decide between breaking the law and letting the slaves die in space (Which is really all I want). The whole standing bonus would just make things difficult.

I like this idea, but for it to be even remotely useful human cargo needs to be something more than npc fodder. Which we need anyway, so its all good. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

EVE universe totaly weird place. Example: Proud brutor warior, hm... let name him Bob. Ok, Bob blows down Ammarian slave transport ship, scoop cargo from wrecks and found in loot some nice amarian wheat, some "Pax Ammaria" scrap paper, some exotic dancers (huzza let's start a party!), and what the heck? Slaves! Ok what proud brutor warior Bob will do? Six... five, four, three, two, zero locking completed, FIRE! Forgive me my constrained brothers but CONCORD don't allow slave transportation, bb see you in haven...
