Hey there...
I was just wondering... what kind of of Sensors, Jammers, Scrambler, Anti devices and so on should i be using... now im not thinking for any specific type of ship or combat style.
But just generally... General Description of what a device is and what it does... any help on this subject is greatly appreciated since i am lost in this jungle of electronic warfare ? :-D

lol I 100% remember when I was new and couldn't figure out for the life of me what all the modules did. Took several weeks for me to get a grasp on it.
Bleh but what you ask is a very complicated question that requires a very long answer. DOCUMENTATION PLEASE CCP!

Like Cao Cao said, it's long and complicated, but if you stay in 0.6 or safer space, and don't do any PvP, then you are unlikely to need any EW, ECM or ECCM stuff.
Quick summary, that hopefully includes everything:
- Webifier (webber) - cuts your top speed to a crawl
- Warp Scrambler - stops you warping
- Target jammer - stops you from locking any targets
- Sensor dampers - reduces the range and speed your targeting
- Tracking disrupters - reduce your guns tracking speed (and hence their ability to hit anything)
For every module type that blocks or jams something, there is a counter measure (apart from webifiers, unless you include MWDs).
One good way of working out what the modules do is to look at the skill they require - the skill name makes it a lot clearer what the module does.
You also need to know about sensor strengths and types, and hopefully someone else will be along to tell you about that shortly.

Thx for your answers guys... now... the things you told me were things i was pretty much clear about already..
The greatest doubt i have comes with the devices such as:
ECM Burst ECCM Projectors
and other things that modify yours or your enemy's gravimetric strength and so on... For instance what does an ECM Burst precisely do. Or the opposites. i simply cant make sense of it. What is the advantage of having a high gravimetric strength and so on?

If you get an ECM burst module u might as well stick it in the recycling bin.

ECM modules (except burst) are jammers. ECCM and ECM bursts are back ups.
There are four race specific targetting sensor types:
Amarr - radar Caldari - gravimetric Minmatar - ladar Gallente - magnetometric
A (Gallente) Megathron, for example, has a targetting sensor strength of 14 magnetometric. To target jam this ship, you need to attack it with at least minus 14 in magnetometric jamming.
To counter this, the Megathon pilot can fit passive (i.e. don't need to be activated before they start working) back up sensor boosters that add to his sensor strength (typically +1 or +2), meaning that an enemy now needs at least -15 or -16 to jam him.
ECM Bursts are active modules that give +8 for a short time, over a short range (5000m). When someone has you target jammed, they bosst your sensor strength so that the jamming is broken. In practice, they aren't very effective because of their short range.
Anyway, in general, if a module gives a minus to sensor strength, it's used for attacking. If it gives a plus to sensor strength, it's a backup defensive bit of kit. The various types of jammers and boosters are designed for the different sensor types of the different races.
There is a special module - the ECM Multispetral, which gives -4 to all sensor types. A ship fitted with four of these can target jam just about any other ship. THis is a typical fitting on Caldari ships, which have enough mid slots to allow four Multispectrals to be fitted.

Hmmm... one last question.
So if i mount 4 multispectral ECMs i can target 1 enemy an make sure he cant target me.. or cant target anybody at all ?

Lily Savage - ECM Bursts are NOT "ECCM Burst", they're ECM, a jammer, used to break the target lock of all ships with sensor strength below the burst (hence "ECM Burst"). They can be used in conjunction with other ECM modules, but then again you need to be less than 5000m away.

the only thing about multispecs is that there only good for short term use, they have only like 5 secs activation time and cost 40 energy, so mounting these on cruisers you will see cap gone pretty soon.
the specials are better and cheaper if you know your enemy and can keep refitting. also they dont drain as much, so id only advise fitting multispecs on a scorp "Teh lord of Nonni"

Yeah, you're right (I'd had too much quafe again) - ECM burst breaks target locks on you.
