Do you use them ?
Are they worth the skilling ?
What do you use them for ?
I have a Caracal and been thinking of combat drones but it seems on paper that combat drones are rubbish but are they ?
Other than that I was thinking of logistic drones incase I need to warp out, repair etc
Can't make my mind up on whether it's worth doing drone skills next.

Yes.
Virtually everyone uses them. Some races have ships who's main damage is drones.
Note that you cannot use logistic drones on your own ship.

You'll definetly want Drones for missions.

I've been doing lvl 2 easy enough and just moved onto lvl 3, would drones be good for lvl 3 then ?
I'm saving up for a drake to make lvl 3 easier and possibly for lvl 4 too.

With a Caracal they are not likely to be worth the hassel, as you can only fit 2 light drones.
However, once you move on to a Drake or Raven they are very useful. Especially with a Raven, as you almost need to have them to deal with frigates properly.

if you're asking about how effective drones can be... do a search for all the complaints people have about nos-domis. ya... they hate the nos... but guess what, a domi who is just nossing you with no drones out won't kill you... its the drones plus the nos that kills... and it does it very well. A fair fight is one you didn't plan hard enough for. |

I use the myr on my level 3 missions. I use only 2 autocannons in the top to get the bad guys to target me. then I release the drones.
5 heavy drones and pound out some damage. Actually, drones are my only source of damage really at the moment. I will keep training them till maxed... only about 200 more days of training... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Drones are excellent weapons in small-group PVP; not so good in fleet combat because they generate a bunch of lag.
For missioning, drones become dramatically less good in level 4 missions because they have a tendency to attack the wrong targets and mess up your strategy. Also the lag problem kicks in pretty nastily in a level 4.
The key to being effective with drones is to train up the Drone Interfacing skill (requires drones 5). A 20% damage bonus per skill level transforms them from 'fairly useful' to 'lethal'.

Having a ship with a dronebay but not using drones is much like leaving one of your slots empty - you are not using all the weapons at your disposal.

Drones are an art form....once mastered, you'll never regret using them.
Look after them, don't get them killed. Return them to your drone bay if they start to take damage. Their shields are automaticaly repaired by bringing them in.
Try not to leave them behind, but don't risk your ship to collect them....i.e. collect them early if you're warping out of a mission.
Keep them focussed - right click and "engage target" to keep them on one target, keep doing this each time you kill a target. Return them to orbit if they get out of control. Don't let them run amok and aggro the whole room in missions.
Drones use no capacitor or ammo!
Cheers Baka ______________________ Have a Skill in training every second of every day and never buy a ship you can't afford to replace at least once. |

I use them, a lot. When I do lvl 4's with Ishtar, that's all I use. My guns' main job is to aggro targets to keep them from attacking my precious drones, then it's just a matter of keeping my distance. With ishtar's wicked drone bonuses, it's pretty deadly. With max skills plus 1 drone link, my drones' range is 90km. That's more than enough range to keep most hotiles from hitting you.
Plus with ishtar's huge drone bay, I equip all types of combat drones. I have 5 50km sentry drones for those 40km+ orbitting BS's, at least 5 heavies for close range BS's, 5 mediums for cruisers and 5 lights for pesky frigates.
Drones are worth skilling, it's like having a gang with you while soloing missions. But you also have to have the ship to fit them, no point on skilling drones if you can's use them. If you're flying caldari ships, train up on missiles and shields and other stuff first to make you an effective caldari ship pilot. Ofcourse you should train on some drone skills so you could use them, but don't spend too much time on it until you can keep your ship from exploding.

Use them all the time on my Lvl4 Raven - lights to take out the frigates and then mediums to help on the bigger stuff.
