Edited by: Dark Shikari on 10/07/2007 19:30:39 Over the past few weeks you may have heard about the SWA-Glory PvP tournament, a cruiser tournament between newbies of various skill levels that occurred roughly a week ago. It got lots of attention: Xylania and Spiraljunkie showed up representing EVETV, as did Chribba. I showed up, of course, to film it.
A lot of Caracals died to make this movie. A lot. It was satisfying.
I've been in Israel for the past week or so, so I have not had much time to finish the editing. But its finally done, encoded, and uploaded. The good news is that there are three versions of the video of varying quality levels/sizes/filetypes. The bad news is that, being a video of a large single-elimination tournament, its pretty long.
Some notes about the video:
--Before each fight, the fitting of both sides is shown; this should help you get an idea of what they're flying and what they're planning to do. --The bracket's current state is shown before and after each fight. --Due to the video's length (nearly 50 minutes), I decided on a more relaxing (but still upbeat) trance mix (by Ryysa) rather than heavier music. Its great listening, too. Ryysa ftw! --There were a number of quite funny occurrences in the movie. Some have been accompanied by the Benny Hill theme. You'll laugh. --I apologize if some of the fights are boring; there are one or two Caracal vs Caracal fights that are... uneventful, for example. Of course, Caracals die in them, so they're worth watching.
I apologize for the large filesizes, but for the length and resolution, they're actually pretty small. And hey, even the high quality version is smaller than DaMige Control. Don't whine about the size of the high quality one if you don't like it; just download the medium quality one instead, which weighs in at a ridiculously low 5-6 megabytes per minute.
If you are willing to run a mirror for any of these files, please say so. I'll add your links to the main post. Also, I would strongly not recommend the High Quality version if EVE-files is maxed out and there's no mirror yet.
If you can't play the H.264 versions, download the CCCP. Don't use VLC, it seems to be flaky on these.
Now sit back, relax, pick someone in the bracket to root for, and watch the tournament!
High Quality H.264 Version Size: 873MB Total bitrate: ~2385kb/s Resolution: 1680x1050 Codec: x264, using the AutoEncoder, on Low Speed/High Quality.
Note: If you want to make sure you can play the High Quality version on your computer before you download it, try this short clip, encoded with the same settings. If it stutters, try the medium quality version.
Medium Quality H.264 Version (recommended if EVE-files is going slow or your computer is not that fast--note the vastly lower filesize) Size: 270MB Total bitrate: ~737kb/s Resolution: 1152x720 Codec: x264, using the AutoEncoder, on Low Speed/Medium Quality.
Medium-Low Quality WMV Version (Note the considerably larger filesize than the similar H.264 version. Only use this if you have a very slow computer or don't want to install the CCCP. The quality is also about 10% lower than the above one.) Size: 434MB Total bitrate: ~1185kb/s Resolution: 1152x720 Codec: WMV9 Advanced Profile, using a custom version of the WMV9 Command Line encoder on "Better" settings.

wow this is fun to watch, i was expecting it to be a bit dull but it isn't. its especially interesting to see how the mind of a new player works when fitting ships (such as the ecm caracal and the triple RCU thorax). It looks amazing fun- it is happening again? (places alt in DCMI, SWA and FNA just incase :D) (fyi noobs for next time try 5* heavy electrons, mwd, web, cap mod, 1600mm plate , eanm ,eanm , rcu , SAR on your rax) - not having watched the whole thing i would bet on either the rupture from fight 1 or one of the sensible rax's winning - t unless somone clever has a yarrbitrator or a vexor still to come and good drone skills

As the 'father' of the tournament, I guess I'd like to say thanks to everyone who helped out, with a huge "thank you" to Dark Shikari, who spent a lot of time into these videos. (I'm downloading, but I've pretty much seen all the footage both first-hand, and then each draft of the video already.) It was a lot of fun, and overall everyone was entertained (I think).
As for news of another tournament, there's not one planned for anytime soon.

I think only a couple people had even close to the drone skills to effectively pilot them; I know Acacia did, not sure about any of the others.

You must be doing something wrong; DownThemAll lets you resume whenever it times out, and EVE-files supports resuming.
Anyways, I'm done multiplexing the new WMV file (now with audio!)
Hopefully I'll be able to upload it by tonight.

When it cuts out, have you tried hitting Pause, then hitting Resume? Sometimes you have to hit Pause even if its already cut out.

1. Download the CCCP Insurgent. 2. Do a test render on the video. 3. Post the result here.

Used to happen to me, thats why i dont recommaned it to anyone. I use Free download manager. Alot better, and has builtin video viewer etc.
Also nice vid, could have sped some parts up a bit more, and less right click left click zoom and more "look at". Got annoying after a while.

Yeah Look At is nice but then you get menus during the footage. The problem with left/right zoom is that the camera's natural shake is amplified by the zoom so its hard to stay targeted on.

i think the thorax would have won if it killed all of the ruptures drones and kept the tracking disruptor on. and then let the drones do all the work on the rupture while it cant hit anything
that and its rather easy to tell their drone skills are lacking by the time it takes one drone to kill another
