I was just wondering how long EVE will keep your characters after cancellation? I remember hearing like years back it was something like 6 months. However checking the FAQ I am not able to find the information on it. How long do they keep the accounts? Most MMO's keep them forever, just kind of interesting if EVE still deletes old accounts only after 6 months.

This question is asked every other day again and again.
Basically CCP guarentees they wont' delete your account for at least 6 months, but they haven't done a character wipe yet, nor do they plan on doing one any time in the near future. ________________

They'll keep them until you can buy better spaceships IRL.

Edited by: Loscae on 11/07/2007 15:49:31 Yeah, I deleted my character last November (2006) and I just reactivated my account (July 2007) and he's still here. So....quite a while. Atleast seven months in my case! haha, thanks CCP!

I've come back on the 5 day free reactivation thing and had a 3 year old toon sitting there...

I quit EvE for about a year and went back after about 1 year and some months and my character, ships, and items were pretty much still there. I am not sure if I "deleted" my character (if that option is available) but I stopped payment during that period.

If you'd deleted it, it would've gone, so you simply stopped paying :).
You are guaranteed to keep your characters for 6 months, but they actually don't really ever delete them, so you're fine, basically. ________

I transfered a character from 2003 to a new account when I returned in February of this year. That account still has another 2003 character on it. I know this because I got a recent e-mail to "come back to EVE" for 5 days in that character's name. While this doesn't speak to future deletions, it is an example of how long they have kept characters in the database so far.

Oh man, no self-respecting MMO developer has deleted a character in years. That's basically just like saying that they never want your money again and they all pretty much learned that lesson, say, one month after WoW launched.

Heck, that's why I never went back to UO...involuntary character deletion.

SOE once did a partial character wipe of long term unplayed characters below level 10 in Everquest. What does that make them then?
But yes, as a whole, MMORPG developers are EXTREMELY reserved about wipes for the above mentioned reason. Especially with the current prices for adding a few more gig to the character database instead.
