Is it worth activating my trial to go to 0.0 and become killed by lag or stay in Empire and not be able to do missions because of lag?
and I am in Federal Navy.Should I make another avatar?
I am confused.

On every MMO games forums, all you will get is moan moan moan moan moan waaaa waaa waaa waaa. The only thing you can do is decide for yourself- go out there and DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO!
As for the avatar, why should you, is there something wrong with what you have?

Depends all on you; can you live with little lag...
(yes, experienced that lag too, but been here for years, which makes it sort of every day issue - but yes that new desync problem is mega crap.)
Most populated systems are in Caldari space, and after that maybe Gallente space. Minmatar or Amarr space might be less populated, which might mean less lag - maybe.
If you want to hear definitive answer can CCP fix their systems, I cannot give you that - but I think they are trying very hard. :) -- V.H.

Edited by: Baka Lakadaka on 11/07/2007 11:43:11 I've been on Eve for over 6 months and have only had one lag related death.
I got re-imbursed a battlecruiser on that occasion - it took almost a week to get reimbursed, but I had sufficient cash reserves at the time to get through the week.
I wouldn't be too pessimistic based on what you hear.....it's not nearly that bad. Make sure you have insurance, make sure you have some cash in reserve (don't spend every last cent on that new ship)....and have fun!

True.I did a lot of research on other MMOs before I took up a trial and Eve looked the most appealing.
My avatar question was because I read that best Fed Navy agents are very busy and have more lag but now I realise that I can mission for any gallent corp and am not tied to just the corp I am in.
I am just worried that whatever I choose to do will be affected by outside influence/lag/bugs which I have no control over and I am not in control of my own destiny. How many times will I start something to find out it is broken or not working?
1st impressions suggest that it is the players who have to adapt to faults instead of CCCP fixing them.

While the newbie forum tends to be the best source of information about a game for prospective players, the general feedback forum usually isn't. People use that forum to bring issues that they feel need changing to the attention of the devs, and to make sure they treat their issue with priority over those of other players they get emotional over them (or pretend to be). EVE is actually quite stable with only some lag in highly crowded systems and major fleet battles with lots of drones. People mainly make such a fuzz over it because they'd fear the devs may not notice their issue otherwise.
Ignore general discussions for now. Ask and read on this forum alone and enjoy the game. It will be quite a while before you may get in a situation where those issue might affect you. Enjoy your pasttime until then. And remember: Time spent enjoying a recreational game is never time wasted .

i've only been on eve since 16 May this year, i've lost 1 cruiser due to lag and I got that back. Was a good job too as I had no money but did have assets.

Yes there is lag in EVE, but there is lag in every MMO I have played. Yes there are bugs, but there are bugs in every MMO I have played.
I have been playing EVE since october 2005, and I can think of only one occasion where a bug kept me from doing what I wanted, and a petition solved that within 30 minutes. As for lag, that really is a situational thing. The high-sec empire systems with the best level 4 agents are quite crowded, and as such definitely have some lag. On the other hand, most corps have at least one agent with a lower quality that is in an area with very little lag. About the only place that you are not going to be able to avoid lag would be in large fleet combat in 0.0. The fact is that you are going to get lag when there are hundreds of ships in system. Fortunately, smaller fleet combat (under 200 people in system) seems to be ok, and alot of fun can still be had.
My biggest advice would be to take everything you read on the forums with a grain of salt. The majority of the players who have no problem with the way the game works are not posting, so all you see is the bad. -=^=-

So I should not do 0.0 fleet combat or use the best agents in Empire?Great!
Thanks for your replys everyone but I suppose buggy, laggy MMOs are something I won't pay for.Shame.

Just stop coming to this forum completely and go play the game. Most of the time, anything you do or say gets shot down by some UB3R G33K who does nothing but sits at home and plays constantly.

If you worry about framerate lag, X3 is the wrong direction.....
Anyways, didn't we just tell you not to take all those whines too seriously? What made you decide they were to be taken serious? Try it out and see how it works for yourself before forming such a strong opinion about such a subjective and emotional issue please!

The lag complaints have to be taken with a grain of salt. I live on the other side of the world from CCP and virtually never get more than a few lag stutters in any system (including Jita) day or night.
My computer is mid-range rather than spectacular, and my ADSL connection is in the 5-7Mbps territory, so I'm hardly better off than others. I suspect it's just that EVE attracts the sort of ex-CS player who thinks that 100ms ping is "unplayable".

Vinny there has a point.
A whole lot of the lag complaints are really blown out of proportion. Someone will get a few seconds delay when trying to open the market or something and the next thing you know they are on the forum crying about how the game is unplayable because of lag. -=^=-

Being on a trial account, I dont think you really need to worry about fleet warfare for right now. Yes, there are enough wars in 0.0 going on to make you happy, but most are with large alliances.
Getting one to let a trial account in will take a bit of effort and even if you did, and minus the lag of hundreds of ships, you probably would not find it all that fun with 3 days of skills.
Mission are usually not bad at all with lag... Most 0.0 is not bad at all with lag as well. Lag "can" be a problem at times. As mentioned, take it with a grain of salt. Many people are born whiners and also love to make excuses. Lag is a great one for why you died. The computer is the problem...NOT MY SKILLS or TACTICS!!!!
The majority will rather say LAG instead of rightfully saying Congrats to the one that killed him.
Lag has never made me lose... I have loyally bowed before the ones that took me out!.....
Just have fun... Lag is over-rated really.
