The problem with lag lies in the fact that when you are in battles there are so many variables being calculated constantly such as how much damage your doing to enemy, how fast your going, your sheild and armour resistance rates etc, all this data then gets sent to the eve server, processed, then sent back.
If some kind of terminal services system was implemented then all eve players would simply have a window into the eve universe, calculating variables would then take place on the eve server and only screen updates/mouse and keyboard info would be sent down the internet connection.
Eve is a very process intensive game, this is the only way to solve lag.
Funny, this is exactly how EVE works today. The client handles no logic, it is simply a dumb terminal.
Our problems are server-side.
Then why in Gods name do i have to fight with your GM's, to get my Geddon replaced, which i lost because of a desynch?! He claims that your server logs show nothing out of the ordinary, yet 4-5 players still had to relog because of a desynch. No modules seemed activated but my ship still fired (animation), the target didn't take damage, we couldn't move anywhere, yet when we logged back in everyone was skattered in random directions, and nolonger sitting on the gate. How is it these so-called desynchs who affect so much of the gameplay, can not be detected by you, even when your server is doing all the calculations? Of course an hour or so after this happened, the server (atleast our node) crashed completely. All this transpired with only 10 in local, rising to 25 in the end. I don't do petitions if i have desynchs in large battles, but this was so miniscule a fight, that it should not have happened. However it did, and neither me or my corpmates who lost ships, have been reimbursed. Hope you can explain to me why it seems to depend on the GM's mood and not the actual events, when it comes to ship losses due to server problems..
Thank you in advance..
Edit: I realise it might actually not be possible to detect desynchs, as it is a communications loss between clien and server. Still something has to be done.. Ok im done blowing of steam! :)
