Okey, so I wanna try out some Jamming, I got a multi-spectral Jammer I that gives 2.0 points in all sensor types. But Im still confused of how all this works.
For example, the Amarr Crucifier has a RADAR sensor strength of 14 points, does my ECM only counter it with 2 points then? Will I only get his sensor strength down to 12 points and thus not being able to jam his lock?

It's chance based. I think that means you have a 1/7 of a chance of jamming him per cycle. ECMs aren;t too good now, only on specilized ships like the blackbird.
Originally by: Tuxford I have already expressed my personal opinion on this and it was very positive (something about happy in the pants).

My rule of thumb is that if your ship is not specialized for ECM, go with the ECM Burst modules ('Cetus' or nothing). They are much stronger, but require you be within 6KM... if you aren't close range, do something else like Sensor Damp or Tracking Disrupt. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That might work when going solo, but I had a tackler rifter intended to be used in small gang, if I use the Burst, wont it also burst allied drones (and thus make allied drones attack me?) ----------------------------------------------- http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=508913 |

you calculate your jamming chance by doing your jaming strength/the ships sensor strength * 100, so you would get a 14% chance of jamming with one ecm.

Be careful with bursts. They're area of effect--like smartbombs--so in hisec you risk concord, and in general you risk your gangmates getting their locks broken as well.
Also, IIRC bursts have a falloff, so its more than 6km--definitely something to be aware of. ----------------------------------------------- Adm Vladimir Tinakin CFO Hadean Drive Yards |

Yeah bursts can go very wrong when used in a gang. I remember a rather embarrassing time (a long time ago i might add) where i broke my gangs lock on someone and he escaped
But yeah as others have said it is chance based. I'd recommend only using ecm on ecm specialised ship and if u can, use the low slot mods that increase the ecm strength.
