Whats with smack talk in this game?
Is there any point in it? in fact all I find smack talk is good for is the wannabe feel good factor and the funny screenshots.
Why can't everyone just hold friendly conversations.

I totally agree with you KamiCrazy. I don't see any reason for all the smack talk...
Just because something is fixed doesn't mean you can't break it

Edited by: Darrin Tobruk on 24/01/2004 23:17:41 I believe a small amount of smack talk, when used to "wind up" the opponent is acceptable. When used as a tactic, it can be kind of fun.
But I also agree that there is way too much trash talk in game, and especially on these forums.
I've been flamed in the Market Forum

I love smack talk, its fun to sit and talk **** after a fight. I think its ok with smack talk as long as you dont make any RL insults or threaths.

Me too, I think it can be a real good laugh after a fight.
Or to just wind some1 up in to an irrational rage before one

I find that thanking your enemy for a good fight is much preferable to talking smack. But it is not for me to dictate to others how they should play this game. I am now in the position where I ignore smack talk 100% of the time.
That is why I tend not to speak in local unless it is to hold a civil conversation.

Just FYI there is more smack talk daily on the forums about the Fountain war than has ever been in Local there.
Both sides use "radio" silence on Local usually. Only times we speak up is after battles as we thank for a "GG" and compare the kills because you can get some really weird messages during battle (like Ship X blew up and you lose target when in reality it just warped out).

Smack Talk serves a purpose.
1) Disinformation. Make the enemy think your 3 cruisers are 5 Battleships.
2) Goading a reluctant enemy into battle.
Those are the only 2 reasons I see for using "smack talk". Any other use is just impolite.

Whats the point of whining about it? Just ignore it. I have absolutely no respect for the losers petitioning people because of what they type into a chatwindow..

I hate local channel, its pretty pointless if you ask me. Infact, wouldn't we be better off without it?Since ship scanners can't scan the entire system, why should local show us everyone who is within 300 AU of us?
Just implement modules that allow tracking/scanning and remove local chat entirely.

if someone starts smacktalking, i just try to make him feel like an idiot for smacktalking. i dont answer anything he says, unless he asks normally, if he starts swearing, i say things like "thanks" and stuff... usually works. but getting hatemail is fun tho, since you have a record of what they said and can quote them whenever you want :P ********** Everyone deserves to die. I hate smack talk from little pu55ies that hide behind their big friend and talk like they are the best pvp in the game. Most of them IÆm sure are immature people under the age of 18. The experienced or seasoned players never talk smack unless provoked. However, once the gloves are off, anything goes, so if you dish it out, be prospered to get some. I also hate the little snitches that potation every time thereÆs a swear word in local. This game is a rough sport, if you ask me. No one said that people would be nice. But have some respect for a fellow foe, especially when you just blew up their ship. Expect some anger, itÆs understandable. But like the old saying goes, æAct like youÆve been there beforeÆ. No need to rub it in, man. ThatÆs just bad sportsmanship.
The truth will set you free

RE: Kakalot's chat log
Now that's not smack talk that's just rude and immature. I'm not siding with PAK, hell I've even hunted them some, but they were civil and used 1 lvl 1 BS and 2 cruisers to take down a lvl 2 BS and didn't even realy gloat about it. Ah scr3w it, yeah I'm siding with PAK because Kitsune it's just a game and you were out of line. Besides no one stole your twinkie in RL, relax. ------------------------------------------------ Place the mission first, never accept defeat, never quit and never leave a fallen comrade behind. |

I do like to talk in local, whether it be, im blockaded.... often the case, or whatever, at the end of the day its a game, if peeps cant be civil to each other, of course i can see where aggresion comes from as people work hard to get their ships..., they are taking it too seriously.

I don't normally start the smack myself, but if someone else starts, I'm always more than happy to finish it.
Trouble is that it's not always fair. Some people just don't know their limitations. Seeing someone try to talk Battleship-scale smack, with only a frigate-scale vocabulary is truly unpleasant.
A good smack talker doesn't need to swear. .

People who smack talk are like those burberry clad idiots that drive around the streets of the UK in their modded Cosworths blasting out crappy techno music in a vain attempt to exude cool and look hard.
Little do they realise that everyone around them is looking at them thinking "Tosser."
