Edited by: Helix Fluxx on 17/07/2007 19:45:43 I just found this thread. I decided to check out this DCA stuff in case it was some kind of a hoax video or something.
It appears not.

Who would think the cure for cancer would be developed in Edmonton... And all this time I use to laugh at all those UofA people from the UofC. GJ UofA.

It wasn't announced two years ago... the press release was in January 2007. See the full story here.

Would have been nice if this was around 8 years ago... I lost a sister due to brain cancer. I would have helped pay for trials for her if she so wished...
Lets hope it works out, and the pharmecutical companies take a big one up the ass...
Because someones $10,000 a year is really going to make a difference, right Capt'n Asshat? Most cancer drives are considered failures by the administration if they don't raise atleast a million.

He was most likely implying that multiple peoples pay checks could fund it including yourself. Go flame somewhere else "ass-hat". Oh and cancer research must own enough money to buy a small country with the amount of money that gets donated to them, would estimate that they could do something, tbh I don't really know their finances but they prob could. --------

nope, he dosen't believe in such socialist crap as publicly funded cancer treatment. thats for liberal pussies. what he's driving at is that the company who developed the cure want paying.

No, they are operating in a basterdized system. They are monopolistic. In no way is it a true capatalistic system...

It's pretty easy to raise that kind of money here in the US... Charity dinners, etc. Hell, Roswell Park here in Buffalo raises a lot for cancer research with a bike ride every year. They raised $1.5 mill in one day. Sorry if your country can't do that, not my problem...
Is your Canadian super healthcare system going to step up to the plate and provide this cure to all your citizens for free? If not, what good is it?
I'm sure if it was possible to do a singular trial for my sister when she was alive, my family (which exceeds 100 working adults) could have raised enough money... My family raised quite a bit for a cousin who lost her home in Katrina. I'm sure we'd raise even more for a person dying with cancer.

Edited by: ry ry on 18/07/2007 10:32:42 so you believe in free enterprise, but only providing companies don't try too hard to be successful.
what happened to the 'America is 0.0 space' and the whole 'survival of the fittest' thing?
make your mind up, you can't have it both ways.

I really don't understand your problem...
Pharmaceutical companies are like big oil, or Microsoft. Hardly free enterprise...
The problem here in the US is we can't, as individuals go shopping for healthcare, and really price shop. Typically we have to get insurance through work, as not going that route is more expensive. We can't do that for prescription drugs either. All you can do is wait for the generic versions to come out after the patents run out, and some Dr's still push the expensive drugs. We have a hybrid system, a corrupt system, which in turn makes it very expensive. Our system lacks competition, same as big oil.
I was talking about raising money for one person's trial, not even sure if that is possible, but I would have if I could have...
And asking any company to give up profits for the good of humanity is never going to work... Companies exist to make profit, not give those profits away.
So if this new non-patentable drug is the answer, we'll have to go it alone as citizens and raise the money. And yes, I'd like the monopolistic pharmaceutical companies to take one up the ass because they can't make a killing on this "cure for cancer"
Quote: nope, he dosen't believe in such socialist crap as publicly funded cancer treatment
Sure I do, as long as it donations, and not extra tax dollars.
