I was just curious on your thoughts on which is more profitable. Low sec ratting coupled with some low sec mining or Hardcore mission running followed by some trade routes and small scale empire mining?
Thanks for your thoughts

Edited by: Jennai on 13/07/2007 14:59:55 lowsec mining is a complete waste of time because the ores are garbage.
ratting gets you killed by pirates, and missions also get you killed by pirates, although not nearly as often because they don't always have probes handy.
highsec missions probably end up being more profitable in the long run unless you're in the ass end of nowhere and even the pirates won't go that far out.

Edited by: Adenosine on 13/07/2007 16:09:37 I dont I understand you reply lowsec ore is well not crap. Ark and Bistot to name a few are nice minerals.
Or did you mean high sec mining? Couldnt you mine enough Trit to do well with the market partnered by missions?
I know in low sec ratting is a pretty good income. It all depends on the day.
I guess I was sorta looking for a ball park idea on a hard days work in empire how much money can be made mission running?
PS By low sec I mean 0.0

Always loot/salvage the level 3s as they give awesome drops and storyline drops..(5x Dark Blood Faction drop last level 3 storyline.. ) 1-2-4 levels are crap for loot/salvage/drops but the isk is definitely nice for level 4s..

By "on good days" you mean using a several billion ISK faction fitted ship with 20+M SP in maxed skills for it plus running the mission with the best possible agent you have a 1/10 chance of making 30 - 40 M ISK in an hour doing L4 missions. With about 15M SP and a mere 1.5B ISK ship and nearly the best agent you can average about 20M an hour.
If you have access to good systems 0.0 ratting is more profitable but dedicated L4 mission running is a close second.

Last time I did WC it took 40 mins. Which gave 25M in bounties + rewards. I use a normal Raven. It has a Caldary Navy X-Large shield booster as its only bit of faction equipment, the rest is t2 or named. Much, much less than a billion.
When I am going all out running missions I make at least 30M an hour when bounties, rewards, loot, salvage and the rewards from the so called storline missions are added up.
Also the LPs are worth having. And having a good standings with the NPC corporations and factions is also worth something (in terms of lower broker fees, access to jump clones, etc.).
All in all level 4s >> ratting.

you dont need uber skillpoints and faction gear for missions, all you need is a raven or even a dominix. I used to do gallente agent missions solo in a t1/named stuff dominix when i was young and just had to turn down angel extravaganzas.
Nowadays I run missions with 2 accounts. dominix for tanking and drone damage and a geddon for pure damage. not the optimum, but still pretty fast. 11 agents per character, i only do the missions that give good isk and arent a pain...blockade (salvaging 3 of those - only the BS - and i can build a rig that sells for 50m...so this alone gives me 125m in say 2 hours), pirate invasion, extravaganzas, cargo delivery, attack of the drones (a few of those and you have enough minerals you ever need, no more mining...), etc.
lvl4s in a decent low sec system (never tried high sec tbh. I still enjoy PVP after all) is all you'll ever need if you don't want to go to 0.0
you can even pay your extra account or both with isk and still be a rich bastard :P

I runn missions now and then in low sec. A quality 17 lvl 3 agent, with not bad social skills (lvl 3 and 4) In a HAC, can yield about 9-10mil an Hour, providing you get decent missions. Not Great but passes the time when theres no Targets in the Belts or at the Gates

If you confine yourself to high-sec maybe, but 30-40m an hour is quite easy in a solo T2-fitted Abaddon with a L4 Q20 agent in low-sec. The direct LP->ISK translation via chips with no need to worry about offers or changes in the market has made L4s, already quite profitable, simply absurd income for anyone not in top-tier 0.0 space.

The most I've done regarding missions (I hate misioneering) are L3s, which I did in my Hurricane with about 3.5ish mil SP. L3s would net me about 4, maybe 5 mil / hour in high-sec, counting in salvage & everything. It's steady income, and no real risks involved. Could've been more effective with more skills, etc. I got dreadfully bored of running missions, though.
Nowdays, the only activity I do for ISK is low-sec ratting. Here, it *really* depends. Typically, I'll make about 2 (maybe 3, but not more)mil / hour ratting in a 0.1 sec system, using an AF, and counting on safespotting now and then because there's pirates around. However, now and then (like, every 4-5 days of playing about 2 and half hours per day), you get a faction spawn, and make 50-200mil by picking up some nice faction loot. Basically, I've made nearly 350mil in the last two weeks, lost one ship (22.5mil). I think it's decent money.
Finding a good and secluded system is a pain, though, and low-sec survival requies you to think and pay attention, otherwise you just get killed and whine on the forums.

Thanks for all the info guys! I have been playing this game off and on since release so I have formed my on outlook on the current topic. I was just curious of others thoughts on hardcore mish running. I have the skills and the ships for high mish running but I was just curious because I have spent most my time in 0.0 " NO SEC " sorry for the mislead of my words in prior posting.
Question - If I have currently good standings with gal fed and I ran enough missions to get the navy mega think it would be possible to find someone to trade it for a navy raven?

probably not. i am not up to date, but there used to be a price difference. you can however still try =) and ofc you could sell the mega, put in some extra isk and buy a navy raven =)
