Hi there!
I'm ENTIRELY new to the world of EVA and I sure wish I entered way before... anywho got my account set-up with a trial and I have to wait 10 more days for my payment to be finalized.
Anywho I would like to know what is the difference between T1 and T2?
I see this everywhere, local chat channels, guides etc.. but I do not really have a clear definition.
From what I know they represent Tech Levels. Tech level 1 and Tech Level 2. How do I differentiate something from 1 and 2?
Do ships come in tech 1 and 2?
Im sooo utterly confused...
thanks for the help.

Tech I items are the ones you find generally everywhere. Tech II items and advanced versions of those items, which have better attributes, but need more skills to use.
For example, you can have a Tech I shield recharger which would generates x amount of shields, then there are Tech II shield rechargers, which would generate much more shields than a Tech I, and also may use less power / cpu etc. You can tell a tech II item because on its thumbnail it will show a little "II" in the upper left corner.
Yes, ships come in tech II also, and like items they are more powerful than tech I ships, but require far more skills to pilot.
hope that helps a bit.

Tech II items are improved versions of Tech I items. For example, a Tech II gun would have a longer range and do more damage than a Tech I gun.
Tech II items usually have slightly higher PG and CPU needs, and require much higher skills to use. For example, a Tech I small pulse laser only needs Small Energy Weapons I to use, but a Tech II small pulse laser requires Small Energy Weapons V, Motion Prediction III and Small Pulse Laser Specialization I.
Unlike Tech I blueprints, blueprints for Tech II items cannot be bought on the market and must be invented or bought from other players. Tech II blueprints also require specialized materials to research and manufacture.
Ships come in Tech I and Tech II variants. Use 'Show Info" on a ship and look under the "Variations" tab to see if it has any Tech II versions. ----- That glorious ship is a Templar-class fighter, the sword of light and purity which our carriers shall drive into the hearts of the Minmatar heretics! |

First off you can just browse the market and look at items, anything with a name like "Random Module II" will be tech 2 (there is also a little yello triangle in the corner of the icon.
Tech 2 items in general have greatly improved stats, but require extensive skills and have more demanding fitting requirements. Most modules have tech 2 variants, and most ships of battlecruiser class and lower have tech 2 variants.
If you want to see if there is a tech 2 variant of any item or ship, while looking at the info for that item, go to the 'variations' tab and all variants will be listed. If there is a T2 variant for that item it will be under the Tech 2 heading. You can then look at the stats and skill requirements to see the differences.
One quick example of ships would be the Punisher frigate, it has 2 T2 variants, the Vengeance and the Retribution, which are of the Assault Frigate class.
An example of a module would be a Capacitor Recharger I, whos T2 variant is the Capacitor Recharger II, which provides a better capacitor recharge rate at the cost of higher fitting and skill requirements.
Another aspect of T2 items is that they are only manufactured by players, so supply and demand greatly effect the prices of these modules/ships, where with T1 items/ships they are sold by NPC's so there is a cap to the cost of the items.
I hope this makes sense? -=^=-

yes all correct above, but better than T2 is faction modules, eg, a dread heat shield, would be far far better than a T2, in shields, cpu and powergrid usage, troble is they cost millions, but can be got from ratting in low sec. go to jita, watch local and your will see everybody trying to sell them

faction items are why not having the skills for T2 is ok in this game.
Just remember battle ships 5 give you a 5% increase but it takes 40 days to train
in the 40 days you can get so many more skills than him.
sp is a silly number. ----------------------------------- I'm working my way through college target CCP |

Edited by: DubanFP on 14/07/2007 00:49:01 T2 items are usually just buffed up versions of T1 items with increased requirements, and heavier PG/CPU usage except for T2 ships. The main difference between T1 ships and T2 ships is that T2 ships cost much more then T1 ships, can't be insured for the full value "you can recover 3/4 cost of most T1 ships in insurance, but T2 ship insurance only covers like 1/20th market value". And rather then just being improved over the originals T2 ships tend to fill a very specialized niche. ________________

dont forget named and faction and officer items.
theres alot of named tech 1 items out there that are better than the tech 2 variants.
faction stuff is almost always better than the tech 2 stuff (i say almost because faction ammo is just slightly less powerful, but just slightly)
officer items are hundreds of times more expensive and rare than tech 1 stuff, but they are correspondingly more powerful. A fair fight is one you didn't plan hard enough for. |

Also, T2 items have a yellow and white II in the upper left corner of their icon.
I used to get It. Then It changed. Now I don't even know what It is.
