My vote for best PVE Command Ship goes to Astarte, mad damage, can tank lvl 4's.

PvE - Nighthawk, for sure.
PvP - Probably Eos for solo. Most of them work great, short of possibly the amarr ones. *snip* Your signature was not EVE related. Contact [email protected] if you want to know more. (Include a link to your signature) -Wachtmeister Post count: 585068

Nighthawk lacks the DPS so its way slower to do missions with it than it is with Astarte.

PvE: Nighthawk, no question. Shield tank and missiles. PvP Solo: Astarte/Eos. Armour tank, 4 mids+. PvP Small gangs: Sleipnir. Speed, good shield tank, won't need to tackle. PvP Large gangs: Absolution. Resists bonus, Scorch M.

Please explain me how Missiles and Shield Tank make the Nighthawk the "Ultimate PVE Command Ship".
My Astarte tanked Worlds Collide and Angel Extravaganzan just fine, with the SAME fit on both (WC was Guristas/Serpentis).
And I have a feeling Astarte does twice the DPS of a Nighthawk, maybe even more.

And? Thats the same with the megathron and the raven.

Damage types is a good start. And shield tank should - being more effective and all - be able to leave more slots for modules such as weapon upgrades and propulsion modules. And the range.
And as a parantesis, the skill requirements. *snip* Your signature was not EVE related. Contact [email protected] if you want to know more. (Include a link to your signature) -Wachtmeister Post count: 768052

Wrong.
Main issues with Megathron compared to Raven is the ability of hitting targets. If the Mega could hit the targets properly, it would do the missions way faster than a Raven. Imo, there is no point bringing Megathron/Raven comparison into this, they are completely different and use different size weaponry.
My Astarte can hit anything just fine in the missions, while doing twice (or more) the DPS of the Nighthawk and still maintaining good enough tank to do them without warping out.
So what is the problem?
1. I tank them fine, therefore there is no point saying "Nighthawk has uber tank". 2. I hit everything just fine, therefore there is no point saying "Missiles hit always or something". 3. Damage types, hmm. My double DPS should more than make up for the "wrong" damage types.

Fly both the nighthawk and astarte and find out for yourself, I did.
Really no point arguing here since people seem to have their mind set on their ship.

You know guys, for PvE it depends on what you fight. Nothing beats Absolution against Sansha and Blood, and it's also uber against drones, it kills drones much, much faster than a Nighthawk.
But, both Abso and Astarte have crap range and have to get in closer while the Nighthawk can start allmost at battleship range.
I have them all, mostly I use the Nighthawk but also Absolution when the target is right
As for the tanking, they all do great with the right setup.

But if you want what I think:
1) nighthawk tanks better (with just a t2 passive tank), astarte has to sacrifice damage mods. for tanking. I'm sure you didn't have 2-3 mag. stabs when you tanked world collide and you probably had faction modules. 2) nighthawk has more range, you can start popping stuff uppon warp-in. 3) you have to admit that without having to worry about tracking ever is a plus. 4) nighthawk missiles precision kills the intercepters much faster than t2 medium drones (i have max drone skills) 5) nighthawk dps is much better than it looks on paper, don't let the number fool you. You can't directly compare dps number of missile with guns. 6) The most important of all!! nighthawk looks better and astarte looks like Jay Leno's face.
1) Check, but no faction mods here, I had 2 damage mods in my low slots. 2) I can hit upto 35km with Navy Antimatter, worked just fine for me. 3) Well not really, my tracking wasnt much of a problem. 4) I dont need drones for those They instapop with guns anyway 5) Ye you cant, missiles take time to fly, guns hit instantly, guns can miss, missiles dont (I still dont have issues with Medium Railgun Tracking). 6) Agreed

320 dps from drones and quite low turretdamage? You cant tank your way through a mission... *snip* Your signature was not EVE related. Contact [email protected] if you want to know more. (Include a link to your signature) -Wachtmeister Post count: 986896

The debate here should have answered your initial question.
There is no "best ship" for pvp or pve, only a best ship for the situation you are in.

PVE : Astarte - Eos PVP : Astarte - Eos ( Sleipnir makes a great gang ship)
How much dps does the NH do exactly? The astarte - Eos can atleast double the dps with no problem, whilst being able to tank lvl 4's, tbh though, i prefer the Eos, 7 250mm rails/200's and 5 sentry drones are great :) ______________________________________________ *some guy telling a noob that pirates doesnt check their age before attacking* "ooh! an age quip! very clever,I'm probably older than you darling! xx |

Edited by: Mogrin on 15/07/2007 18:31:46 Defender missiles will make you want to kill a puppy when fighting NPC battleships with a drake or nighthawk. Most battleships have 3 defender missiles and some have 4. Drives me absolutely insane.
And I too would go with astarte. I already have a pimped out drake. The difference between a drake and a nighthawk aren't good enough to justify training that much for one. If I go command ship it will definitely be for an astarte. Good part is that many of the skills overlap and i'll be able to fly both astarte and nighthawk at that point. And trust me i'd probably always fly the astarte. _______________ Rokh vs. Hyperion
