So I've been beating myself over the head trying to find out WHERE the problem exists.
This may or may not be the first post/proof that the problem exists, but I'm PLEADING for a Dev to -acknowledge- that they have seen/replicated the problem, agree it's an issue, and promise that it's on the chopping block.
I have an Early-2011 model MBP 13" 2.1GHz i5 8GB DDR3 w/Intel GMA -- Before the Winter expansion, at all low settings, I would not have any issues hitting 50-60fps on a regular basis. The game was more than playable, and I was very content.
After the patch, things went downhill hard. I can barely play any combat session on my MBP, so I've only resorted to playing indy style while on this machine.
Based on another thread I found, it looks as if the new font is the culprit, and especially on OSX (unknown if Wine is the problem) -- it seems that the more text that must be rendered, the harder the performance hit.
Take for example the screen shots I posted here. The first, the overview is open -- framerate is choppy and unless looking at just empty space you can definitely tell there's an issue. The second screenshot, I minimize the overview list, and BADABING, perfect framerate!
Overview Visible Overview Minimized
So the proof is in the pudding! The performance problem alone could be solved by disabling the new font rendering system. Does anyone know if there are ini tweaks to allow this?
I beg everyone on OSX/Wine to **PLEASE** try this, and provide screenshots as proof to the problem so that CCP understands where the problem lies and can provide a fix! Or at the very minimum acknowledge that there is an issue and will get around to fixing it.

I'm trying to find the other post related to the new font and performance issues... If anyone knows what I'm talking about and can help find it, I'd appreciate it.

I just tried this out. I am seeing some performance effects. With my usual three chat windows and Overview, I'm getting about high-30s frames per second when orbiting a quiet HighSec station. If I minimize the chat windows, I get about 50 FPS, and then minimizing the Overview gets me into the high 50s frames per second. Survivor of Teskanen. -áFan of John Rourke.

How do I put up the FPS monitor?
I too play EVE Online on the OSX and I too encounter performance issues. The most annoying one would be window stutter. This means that every time I click to open a window, whether a chat window or the chat tab, there's a short freeze. This problem gets worse the longer I play, meaning that the time of freeze increases as gametime continues.
I've mentioned this problem on another thread but I just wanted to post again on another thread to emphasize the problem. Though the glitch is minor, it can get extremely annoying. I don't know whether this is the case with PC users or not but as a consumer and as a fan, I hope that CCP addresses the problem as soon as possible.
If anyone can tell me a way to put up the FPS monitor, I could perhaps check the fps at the beginning when the client is opened and the fps after the game has ran for a while. I know that there might be a difference since at the beginning the computer's memory might be fresher therefore giving a higher framerate, but the question is how big is the difference.
My spec is as follow:
MacBook Pro Early 2011 2.2GHz Intel Core i7, 4GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 |

There are some fixes planned for TITUS that will increase mac performance, which is now on singularity. (At the time of posting the mac client would not start and will be fixed asap)
Client performance is very high on our TODO: list right now. The main offender for client performance is the overview. This is true for every platform (XP, win7 and OS X) and we'll be looking in the near future to bring it back to a more optimal level of performance.
Having said this, I'll see if there's anything more we can have fixed before the next release to reduce the severity of the issue. |

On just the regular mac client ( which uses cider) I do not see this effect. Multiple chat windows up vs all minimized: same fps.

This post acknowledges slow performance of Crucible Eve mac client. CCP has showed no public interest in solving freezing issues. If you don't have the freezing issues on your mac, then you are lucky (that's like gambling). If you have the freezing, it's your choice whether you play a broken game or unsubscribe. Like I promised, I used the FPS Monitor to observe what happens when I do certain actions, and the following are the results:
Switching chat tabs: http://cl.ly/0d3x343S3f2c1U2P1O28 each spike represents a stutter that lasts about a second.
Similarly, when quickly switching between tabs, the following happens: http://cl.ly/1S3S0d3x1c2s1d0k032t Switching Overview tabs also causes the same behavior in framerate.
FPS immediately after undocking: http://cl.ly/0L2C1N0X0K1r272O1x2n
FPS after warping: http://cl.ly/251E2B1g2t1s3y0o1Q2E
It should be noted that the delay worsens as the client keeps running.
I hope this helps explain the problem with performance. |

i am also experiencing some awful performance my my Macbook non-pro 2010.
Core 2 Duo 2.4 ghz 2GB Ram Nvidia 320M 256mb
I cant even do a mission on this computer due to lag. I once tried to do a lvl 4 mission, and my fps was probably 10.
Also, im still experiencing purple/pink/blue engines on caldari & gallente ships. |

Sorry, what's TITUS?
Posting here cos seems the hardware is very similar and having the exact same issue. Although cursory testing shows the minimising thing makes no difference to me. Just think its wierd because I was getting 60FPS flat out prior to Crucible and now it spikes constantly between 5 and 30. Exact same settings.

I'm not looking to create a flame war here, but please try to keep things constructive -- If you feel you've been slighted by CCP, please express in another thread or by doing as you've said and discontinuing your subscription.
I feel that with acknowledgement that there's a problem from the Devs, we are one step closer to a solution. As a network dev, I understand thatit requires specific input to fix bugs and errant code. Simply complaining that something is broken and you're pissed off is your right, however it won't help correct the problem unless you're willing to help...
Just my $0.02.
Thanks again to the Dev who replied to this thread. Any mods, feel free to close the thread as we've received multiple counts of evidence plus feedback from within the company and I would rather this an informative archived thread rather than a rant/flame fest.

I recorded this problem with my shaky handheld digit cam. Sorry for the ****** quality but it does capture the essence of the issue. It's an extreme occurrence that highlight the problem, so it's easy to "get" what's up. Just pay attention to the cursor; this is all that really matters here. Im holding the button down and dragging all the time of the recording. See how jagged and cracked up it is. Nothing of the sort happen when playing via WIn7 throughout bootcamp with the exact same hardware setup.. That is some mac specific **** going on.

There seems to be a really big patch coming on Tuesday that includes a ton of fluff but no mention of any of the Mac issues. So just wondering if some of these are going to be released in the patch on Tues. or any fixes for the crash/freeze problem? |

Well, I deleted the ftfontcache file, restarted the client, and for a while there was zero "pause" or lag on switching chat channels. In fact, before I did that, it would drop a predictable amt of FPS every time you clicked D-scan, based on the amount of text it displays. The more text, the more the delay.
After clearing the fontcache, it went away completely until the chat windows filled back up. Not sure why the font cache itself would have any effect here, but it does.

I've been learning a lot from all these reports of issues and checking them out on my machine but have yet to discover anything which affects my gameplay. I have a new 15" Macbook Pro 2.2 w/ 8gigs Ram.
To qualify this, however, I must add that, at first, I did have overheating problems which would crash the game and machine. I remember having this same problem when I first tried EVE briefly couple years back - the IMac had no problem but the Macbook Pro always crashed. This was solved two ways; first, by adjusting controls for performance then adjusting those controls one by one up the scale until graphics worked as I wanted - I also shut down interior hangar effects as while it looks great, didn't add to game as the action is outside anyway. Second; I added a Logitech Coolpad or whatever it's called under laptop to help keep airflow circulating. That really helped!
Now I don't' get any crashes or performance issues no matter how many windows I have active. 60 FPS is steady - sure, except for two seconds when clicking something open or display changes c/o exiting station. Battles smooth and uninterrupted - until I die, anyway, sort of. Only time I get the stuttering mini-freezes is when I go near Jita 4-4 or any large quantity fleet action - that's where the problem really manifests itself for me. Since I'm in that situation rarely, no problems, no worries.
It was mentioned that fonts and/or font cache might be causing headaches? Can one not just write a Script to clear the cache every ten or thirty seconds? Suggestion, anyway.
Cheers!
