Edited by: Squeakz on 16/07/2007 12:55:19 I'm trying to kill some 0.0 rats in an undisclosed location. Every now and then a really nice group will spawn, and then start acting crazy.
Basically the rats just randomly decide to MWD away from the belt and never look back. That's right, I've chased BS rats over 5-6 grids in my poor BC trying to catch em. BS rats going 1500m/s WTF? Do I need an interceptor buddy with dual webs to rat now?
I petitioned it as a bug and was told that "drifting" as CCP is apparently calling it is normal behavior for rats. This was a month ago.
It sucks that this is the only spawn in the dang system, but I'm tired of futiley chasing em.

The point is not that it happens, it's that it is obviously a bug, it's gotta be. You think this should be normal?

It is normal in the drone regions. Are you in the drone regions?

That would be referring to the warp out the NPC frigates will now do after you kill the BSes, cutting down on chainging spawns.
No, I'm not in the drone regions. I am aware that NPCs with MWD back to their spawn point if they wander too far away from it. These NPCs are MWDing AWAY from their spawn point, and are at full health. 3 BSes and 3 frigs afraid of a widdle BC.

Sometimes rats will deliberately lure you to a secret location.
I think this was intended to be a hint that a secret belt exists a long time ago before deep spaces and exploration, was the only way to let players know there was something extra over the horizon.
When this subroutine is working the rats move only while you are observing them, and move away from you at incredible speeds for the ship type, and ALWAYS towards another asteroid belt.
Verification Symptoms: rats are well beyond you ships sensor range but still appear on Overview. Normally you would not see a rat over 300 km away, right? Well these "lead me to the secret" spawns can be up to 3 km away and still be on overview.
There drove me nuts, as they only happen in rare systems that happen to have a secret belt..
I finally got an interceptor and chased one, wonderful results and NO I will not say what systems I have discovered these in.
But its a flag to the observant that something is going on "over there".

I told CCP once why the drones in the drone regions fly off at amazing speeds. BUT THEY DIDNT LISTEN!
Anyways not sure if its the same with other rats, but with the drone battleships its because their inertia is screwed up. They spawn inside an astroid, as a result they get bounced out so hard (sometimes 10k/sec or faster) that by the time they stop, their a ghazilion miles away.
Back when I still flew my nano-phoon I'd sometimes, just for the fun of it, bump drone bs off a gate. A good bump would result in them doing >2k/sec and by the time they stopped they where 300-400km off the gate
If I did a similar bump to a player-BS, they'd end up max 50km away and usually less then 20km from their original position.
Funny, because the drones that are +400km away from the gate eventually mwd'd back. But then overshoot the gate by like 80km because they cant stop their MWD in time either.
