In Asheron's Call, when a town or zone was over-populated, a portal event activates to teleport people at random to nearby zones, thus reducing lag.
As it is important to try and make all systems lag-friendly including Jita, I propose a different event trigger that occurs when too many people are in a system.
How about when the server detects too many people (in space) in a system, it removes concord retaliation for attacking. Essentially temporarily lower the sec rating of a system (like Jita) to 0.4 or less. Then as people kill each other off, when the population in the system (in space mind you not in station) is low enough, the system sec rating returns to normal.
It is just an idea to bring out, I have little clue how advanced the tech is to be able to change the sec rating or disable concord is.
Thoughts?

Perhaps you have the time to reply WHY no? Not that I am saying this idea is the best in the world but I would like to know why not as opposed to just a no.

The reason I think it's important to consider options like this is because systems like Jita are extremely condensed to the point that the lag is horrible there (even with improved servers).

This would not be a viable option becuse it removes the ability for people to plan and make decisions. I for one would not like to spend alot of time and resources to set up shop and then have security rating arbitralily changed. Right now people go to 0.0, low-sec, high-sec by choice and it is not thrust upon them.
The high population centers may have lag but you CHOOSE to go there and thus you have chosen to have the lag. If you don't like the lag caused by high concentrations, then go somewhere else.
In essence you want to remove free-will and choice - not wise.

imagine a freighter pilot hauling npc goods and then suddenly finding jita is 0.4 or less, great for all the piwats, but a way to really upset all those who not find it fun to get pvp forced upon them by piwats who are getting bored.
Maybe if all the suicide gankers could be teleported to 0.1, then it might be more fun for the piwats to play with them :)
Imagine if people running a mission and then find themselves moved 10 jumps just to reduce lag. Yulai was pretty bad, but like a previous poster, people know jita is a trade hub and know what to expect when they go there :)

Understandable. Thanks for the reply.
I was just hoping to see a way to help resolve the lag around areas like Jita. I understand I can choose to move elsewhere, it's just that it would be nice to do so as a result of the gameplay and not connection issues.

Also given the nature of Eve and its player base, with such a change it would be just a matter of time before a corp of a thousand player would crash a systems security rating to pirate where ever they please. And lag in Jita is mostly not a connection issue, but a case of too many people on one node. Basicly the infrastructure isn't up to it. On the other hand, try to drive in some downtown of a big city during rush hour...

a 10% security tax for concord on all goods in highsec would solve it

Curiously, Karlemgne wonders why it would matter whether or not Jita sec status had fallen to .3 instead of .4.
Do you care to explain?

And than when we've been camping Jita for a few hours, it suddenly goes back to highsec, thus spawning concord and navy on our ass...
Please, no...

A better idea, move all level 4 and 5 missions to random low sec areas.
Problem solved. Fear the Ibis of doom!

why on Earth would that even happen? I could just see an example of how the convo would go in Caldari State.
"Ok we need viable options to solve this Jitta-jam we have been having the past few years. Any thoughts?"
*ahem*"Well sir we could do a 'surprise event' where we get rid of Concord for an hours or so when trafic gets high and let all those people fight it out Mortal Kombat style"
"what about all the trade going on in Jita?"
"Oh pirates would fix that by taking all the loot from out hualers going to stations"
"so..we wouldent get resupplied would we? also out profits would drop"
"Yes sir!"
"Edd, your a dumb ass" *gun shot sounds*
In all reality though combat makes MORE lag than people just sitting there.

Lets just make Jita a permanent 0.0. I like that idea

I think that something much simpler could be made to work, when the population of jita gets too high the inbound gates to jita close and only reopens once a certain percent or number is dropped back down, by out bound or people logging off.

well, it's not only jita :|
i suppose CCP could make a "station link" with the stations of Jita-Perimeter
when jita reach 500 ppl, close gate, but you can still get your things at perimeter or close system at random :|
or, better, remove stations from jita ----------------------------------------------- Forum Warfare - Rank (4) - Level V Forum Warfare Specialist - Rank (9) - Level III Armor Flame Compensation - Rank (5) - Level IV |

Jita is just a trade hub and a good one at that. I don't see a solution to the traders, industrial types and peeps coming in to buy there goods.
It could be made a no fire zone though? The only people to suffer would be those camping 4-4 killing war targets who are suffering from huges amounts of lag, tbh i have no sympathy with those types of campers. Jita is a trade hub, keep it one i say

I used Jita as an example but it could be applied to any area that seems to be a choke point.
