I started playing Eve just over a year ago. I played the 14 day trial, liked it, and tried to subscribe. However this was this time that the payment system was broken for a month or so. So I went to another MMO for about 6 months. Got tired of that one, and tried to get onto Eve again. Eve was once again having problems with the payment system for around a month per the forums & wouldn't accept my payment. So I did WoW for a while.
Now it's been a year later and my trial account is now a full account. However, I wonder if that was such a good idea. I've read that new accounts now start out with a lot more abilities. A months worth of training and more skill points.
Did I shoot myself in the foot by turning a year old trial created before this change into a full account? Am I behind what a 0 day account gets now upon account creation? I did set myself up to train a month long skill (lvl 5 mining) just prior the end of the trial, and I did get 4 notifications that this skill training completed when my trial went full. I have just over 1 mil skill points..

If you have just over 1 million sp, you're slightly ahead of a new character, but not by much. New characters start with 800,000 sp, so you're maybe a week ahead of them. You can keep your character, but you might actually want to reroll, some of the careers can give some extremely specialised skills

Not too long ago, a change was made to the character creation system. Since that was implemented, all new pilots start with (roughly) 800k skill points.
BUT. Any characters which fitted the following criteria:
1. Created BEFORE the skillpoint increase 2. Has less than 800k skill points
recieved skill point bonuses at the same time. So your character should have 800k SP and be no further behind anyone that was starting to play EVE right now.
I would suggest that you create a new character in one of your empty slots, and see if you can play around with it to get a setup that you like better than your current character. If you can't, then just stick with the older character.
Either way, there is no way to permanently screw up your skills or attributes in EVE - poor choices will only mean that it takes you a little longer to get up to speed. ----- That glorious ship is a Templar-class fighter, the sword of light and purity which our carriers shall drive into the hearts of the Minmatar heretics! |

Thanks for the info. I'd searched for a while prior to posting. Just after I posted I finally found this blog entry;
http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=403
Very good detail about this upgrade and how it applies to characters such as mine.
Seems like I'm ok. I'm at the beginning of building a miner. I don't have much time to play games this summer, so Eve's time based skills work out well. I like my character, and am glad that the developers restarted the Aura (sp?) tutorial for situation like mine. I'd forgot a lot.
ps: After a year, shouldn't my forum picture be copied down by now and not an exclamation point? This is not my first post.

It will happen soon. I believe it only happens to active accounts, so after you have been playing for a little while it will copy over :) --- We are Recuiting! If you have what it takes, click me! Oh yeah...click me....yeah... |
