I'm having a lot of trouble moving from flying big armour tanking ships (Abso et al) to flying the Curse in speedmode solo. So I was thinking that maybe I should try to use the Pilgrim. Thing is, I have no idea how to use this one either, and wether it can be effectively used as an armour tanker.
Help?

Its a good armor tanker if you use its nos and ew to minimize incoming damage enough. Try this:
3x Medium Nos II 1x COCD II
1mn MWD* / 1mn AB** Webifier II Warp Disruptor II 2x EW (eg RSD or TD) II
Medium Armor Repairer 800mm rolled tungsten Kinetic/Explosive/Thermal Hardener II*** DC II/EANM/EANM****
*= Needs Powergrid rig, good for surviving bubblecamps **= If you are too poor for a Rig ***= Needs Recon V, gives good resists to armor (eg 2x MAR II) ****= Needs Recon IV, gives nice overall hitpoints ________________ Kali 3.0 Patchnotes: Amarr Oompf!

Pilgrims aren't imba pwnmobiles like curses. It's all about sneaking around and looking for turret ships.

Recon V is really needed for the Pilgrim to get a decent fit from it.

This setup requires ALOT of skills to be effective (recon 5, drone interfacing 5, drone specs 5, and ewar skills maxed out)... 231 days left for me
Highs:
CocII Small Energy Neut II 2x Med Nos II
Meds:
Phased Muon Sensor Damp II Balmer Targetting Disruptor Republic Fleet 10mn MWD Republic Fleet Warp Disruptor Cetus ECM Burst
Lows:
Damage Control II Centum A-type Medium Armor repper 2x Corpum A-type EANM 800MM rolled tungston plate
Rigs:
Particle Dispersion Augmentor Auxiliary nano pump
Implant Set: HALO
Its expensive, and not for the faint of heart.. but I feel it (will be) effective
My opinion is my own, not of my corp or my alliance. If you have problems, we can have a "who can do L4 missions faster" duel >:) |

curse is a much stronger ship, but pilgrim can be fine, too. as long as you don't fit the setups posted on the forums.. especially the ones in this thread.

qft!
But I like the idea of #6 to fit a pilgrim that costs around 1.5b...

Edited by: jilahed on 17/07/2007 09:32:15 Basically i use one out of two:
His: 2 x med nos, 1 x neut
meds: web, scram, 2 x td, cap inject
lows: dual rep, kin, therm hardener, eanm or dmg control
maybe needs a pg rig not sure atm, otherwise rep rigs would be good
You can permatank 5 x heavy drones unbonused. This has proven invaluable for me as i can't shut down drones really. I can try to kill them but scoop+redeploly make it near-impossible in closerange which is where pilgrim belongs. In my experience 2 x td works well enough to evade most turret damage(on *large* turrets!), but the drones can be your doom. Better would be faction rep(corpum or how its called) + plate ofc, because with so low hp burst damage can *really* hurt. Not so good against missile boats obviously.
Or:
His: 2 x med nos + med neut or 3 x med nos Meds: web, scram, 2 x damp, ecm burst lows: med rep, kin, therm hardener, eanm or dmg control, 1600RT 2 x pg rig i think
Can be used against missile boats too(well fofs can hurt). However the med rep just doesn't cut it against 5 x heavies imo. Also in case your enemy gets a lock (which can happen from time to time) you are looking at some hefty damage until the next cycle hits. This is what the plate is for, so you have a large buffer for these periods. Gives you also a good chance of retreat if things don't go so well.
Also fear the med turrets, they don't really care so much for your td's. And always think twice before engaging because once your're uncloaked you are extremely vulnerable.
Cruisers with mwd are generally speaking ugly. Although you might solo some bs, two well fitted thoraxes might easily kill you depending on setup.
Most people i've seen prefer eanm instead of active hardeners. I havent considered them much yet as i don't have my compensation skills up yet. But i have had good experiences with the above setups.
Another question seems to be if one wants a propulsion mod or not. I like dual reps which needs an injector (for when the target runs dry) and 2 slots for ewar are imo mandatory. 1 td won't evade so much turret fire against say a skilled mega pilot that it saves you in my experience. 1 damp doesn't do much at all except helping drones a bit - but you can easily scoop them anyway. Thus you are left with no place for mwd/ab if you choose 2 x td + inject or 2 x damp + burst. Others prefer to not use an injector and fit propulsion mod and 2 x td. I am sure this is viable too, but only with 1 rep + plate.
Edit: And of course the 4th highslot should be a covert ops cloaking device.

exactly. people that have strong fittings tend to not let the whole universe see their slots. in general, if you see a fitting on the forum, just DON'T use it!!!

Today I saw how paper thin nano ships really are.
A nano curse came into range of 6 of me and my corp mates ships. needless to say I aint ever seen a cruiser pop so easy before.
In fact, damn near popped so fast I almost reconsidered not training for one. but I knew that they are a WTFBBQPWNAGE ship,IF the pilot is smart, keeps his wits about him self and does not engage multiple hostiles like this twit did.
I read a thread on how to learn to pilot a nano vagabond, the general consensus was. use a stabber till your confortable in it. so in your case. fly a Arbitrator. -

Hey Deschenus !
Here is the setup I like to use :
Highs :
1 cov ops cloak 2 med nos 1 med neutralizer
or
1 cov ops cloak 3 med nos (Depends on the size of your target)
Meds :
1 web 1 scram 2 balmer tracking disruptors 1 ECM burst or 1 multispec, your choice
And no AB/MWD : why use a speed mod when you pick your fights and engage at 5km ?
For the lows : 1 med rep 1 thermal hardener 1 damage control 1 EANM 1 800mm RT
Resists are around 70, and the 800mm RT give some extra buffer. And if you want to fit another EANM instead of the therm hardener, you'll have to go Recon V
The only dps on you now are the drones, but you can tank them long enough to kill BC-sized ships. (Maybe not the myrmidon, not tried yet :p)

3 NOS 1 COCDII
1 MWD 2 RSD 1 ECM Burst 1 Disruptor
2 MARII 2 EANMII 1 DCII
I don't know if it still fits with the EANM changes but it needed Recon V anyways. /DeadRow

I like the Pilgrim with 2x damps and ecm burst. You should be able to take just about any BS, though Domi's could be trouble if you don't get enough jams.
Honestly though, if I want to fly around in a Force Recon, I'll use a nano-arazu. I haven't used a Pilgrim for quite some time.
Curse is a damn fine ship though. I'll engage multiple ships all the time (and win) in that baby. Run from Huggins though.

HALO lowers sig radius.. couple that with the sensor damp.. yea.. its going to be awhile for any ship to re-lock you. (well long enough that unless the pilot has sig analysis 5 and a sensor booster)... most of the time, they'll still be trying to get a lock when you can use the burst again.

Thank you to all those that replied. I will keep this thread for Pilgrim setups. I am, however, getting used to my speedcurse and lol, it is the pwn. Just needed some practice (still do, but getting better).
