i want to feel like i'm piloting a ship, that is one of the goals of this game no?
Something like you are in a seat and you can look around the room with your mouse but you can still see through the window as well. I spend more time looking at the overview anyhow personally.
somthing that would add ALOT to the game.

Is is that time again?
You have no windows, hell you don't even have a seat, you float in a pod with sticky stuff in it Atleast that's how they advertise it, i don't care either way but if they did what you want you'd get some geeks screaming about it
Besides, who cares if you have a first person view or not, just blow some people up instead

actually there is a video out, you can see a screenshot how it would look like from the bridge, i saw it a year or ago, together with this walk thru station stuff. i think it was a presentation video from the eve fanfestivel.

I think I know which picture he is referring to, and it was concept art for player controlled POS defence - not ship piloting.
There are no windows in your pod. Period.

Lol, I want the same!
Right we are in a pod... and we see through camera drones that are in space. We could have a deckview dor ships over shuttle size, but what would it add to the game? -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast ! The Vexor Navy Issue is much more fun than the Myrmidon !

Edited by: Gad''ui on 17/07/2007 17:44:05 it would add alot for me...
and why is it on caldari ships i can clearly see a*****pit with a window, or a command bridge with a full window.
I can also tell a sort of*****pit on the gallente ships as well, the windows are bright green.
so if it doesn't add alot for you, stay in 3rd person...for me i would only use this first person*****pit view because i like simulator type experiences.
don't tell me to go play flight sims either please.

These ships are based off the empire ones, who are flying withoud pod pilots mostly.
Read the short6 stories in tghe backstory section, it explains why you cant ever have a 1st person view in eve.

so wait, were in pods and cameras are showing us whats going on. Ok fine and dandy, so why isn't there a camera in the*****pit that transmutes it to my pod.
better yet if you want to get technical your telling me theres a floating camera behind the ship at all times? that can zoom out several hundred kilometers? it doesn't even have to have a*****pit, a camera anchored to a point on the ship that moves with the ship is better then just a 3rd person view.

What are you smoking? It would add absolutely nothing to the game save a few more pretty things to look at when you have nothing better to do.
It doesn't fit the back story -you know that pod thing everyone is strapped into!- and it wouldn't be usable for actually playing the game. It would just be cool to look at while you're ****ing at a gate camp.

There are no camera drones, the ships sensors and such detect everything going on around you and projects a visual image of it into your brain, you don't actually see anything
And how exactly would you play from a first peron point of view? let's say you want to fly to where you came from, how would you do it? you couldn't because you can only look forward

On your first point, it does exactly that. Well, not to your pod, but rather the pod directly feeds the images into your brain. Read the Jovian Wet Grave short story on this site.
On the second point, the reason the camera is free floating and not anchored is so that the camera drone can be commanded to fly to an object (ie. using the 'look at' feature) and orbit it giving you a view. A fixed camera on the ship exterior would not do that. Nor would it allow you to look all around your ship and see what was going on behind it.
What you are asking breaks the game backstory. Like it or not, there is a backstory and everything the Devs put in the game has to revolve around it. Otherwse there would be pace pixies riding unicorns all over the place. Every game you buy has a story attached to it as well and everything going on in the game is a result of that storyline. Eve is no different, so nothing in game should break the game lore for the sake of features. In fact, I would like to think that the game story was not developed to cover what people might think of as shortcomings in the game design, but rather the game was made specifically the way it is to fit with a pre-established backstory. ------ Shakor Clan Information Portal |

Yes, but you do have a crew. I'd like to see the game from the crew perspective, i.e. the command deck.
Won't cry if I don't get it, but it'd be a nice touch, tbh.

The drone can still be destroyed, either by accident, such as passing debris or stray shot, or on purpose. All ships have abundant supplies of spare camera drones stored away for such occasions and the captain has to be fairly clueless to run out of camera drones. The fact that the drones are stationed outside the shipÆs shield makes it impractical to try to protect them. Simply storing lots and lots of them is much easier, as theyÆre very cheap.
We shoot them and new ones comes, it's much like zergs! Anyway, a battleship would take an eternity to lock a 1m radius camera drone (should be small, take a look at the camera we put in remote controlled things irl) and the guns would always miss it...

sounds like a bunch of fancy words to get out of creating a first person view.
if its that easy to make up stories and crap why not make up a story as to how a*****pit simulation module was developed by lai dai or some ****?
only reason your arguing with me is because its something you don't want or care to have, there are other players in eve not just a few.

The pod story excists for a reason, that reason is that it's impossible for a single person to operate most ships in eve, enter pod here And of course a first person view is completely useless And yes, there are more people in eve, most of which don't give a crap about FPV

*most* don't give a crap but i do and so do others. it would not be impossible to operate a ship from first person at all most of the crap is done from the overview anyhow, and if your in combat then go ahead and jump into 3rd person i don't care but if your just cruising around space jumping and warping what not, i think it would be great and i personally would almost always use it.
from what I'm learning lots of people request this in the game, apparently your incorrect as far as people not wanting it to happen.

Yes because creating a fixed viewpoint on a ship is so much harder than an active camera moving around your complex 3D model ship in space. The devs were just being lazy.... [/sacrasm]
Originally by: Gad'ui If its that easy to make up stories and crap why not make up a story as to how a*****pit simulation module was developed by lai dai or some ****?
Because on the whole EVE would join the ranks of countless space sim games where all you see is a fixed camera shot of what is ahead of you. Thats boring and unoriginal. This is a unique feature to eve.

Yes we don't want it and we don't care about it. Who said it was anything else other than that? You say we should realise there are other people in the game. Well remember that goes for you to. And I dare say people asking for this game lore breaking and unoriginal feature you are asking for are a minority. ------ Shakor Clan Information Portal |

Step 1:
Paper, Crayons, Scissors, Tape
Step 1 (alternative):
Photoshop/Paint, Printer, Scissors, Tape
Step 2 (for beginners):
Draw a nice picture of the size of the frame of your monitor, leave parts of it blank
Step 2 (for professionals):
Draw and even nicer picture, make sure you measured your monitors frame size correctly and leave enough blank parts to not hide too much of your screen. For the biggest pros out there, draw a nifty frame around where your EVE ships hud is displayed.
Step 3: (Print), Cut out the blank areas, Laminate if you like
Step 4: Tape it to your screen
Disclaimer: Yes! It works. I've done it. My first steps in Arts aiding computers was drawing the Lemmings Ladder on a foil for complete Lemmings domination.
