I can't quite decide which line of ships I wish to follow.
I started out with gallente, but I switched to caldari due to the better mining cruiser (I still haven't made up my mind whether I want to be a miner, but whatever...).
I haven't paid much attention to minmitar or amarr, but minmitar seems to be more geared towards hit-and-run type of operations. I have considered trying out amarr, but I wanted to ask here for suggestions first.
What's the general combat scenario with each race's ships? I plan on mostly ratting later on while doing agent missions, so a race that has plenty of ships for that type of thing would be great. PvP really isn't my thing. If anything, I want to work as a guard for a mining operation. Bounty hunting and pirating are not my thing.

for missions/ratting caldari are the easy choice, however the least interesting IMO, truth is any race has good ships for what you want to do, but caldari are the simplest for it.
Just the other night some corp mates and i went out ratting in 0.0 using assault frigates, 2 wolves and an ishkur dropped 1m BS's in about 25 seconds. My point being that any race is good for PvE activities, using the right one from the race you pick make a much bigger difference than the race does.

i agree, caldari are the easiest to fly. if you want to really have fun, i suggest working towards a drake. they are fun.

They're all good, and they can all be used in a wide variety of situations. Me, my idea of a fun fight is standing toe-to-toe with a sledgehammer. Hence, I fly Gallente.

Caldari have the ships that complete missions the fastest, so you should basically pick caldari and go through the standard Kestrel -> Caracal -> Drake -> Raven scenario.
